  • OFX Bridge & NewBlue

I have been reading the Application Notes for the OFX Bridge for Edius 8.1.

It says that this is a collaboration with NewBlue and includes a 1 year free licence for Titler Pro 2.

I already have Titler Pro 2 as well as other NB products. Does this installation affect the NB products that I have already purchased?

Thanks John, but hoping someone will know for definite. I don't want to guess and find out the hard way that every NB install gets screwed up.

I am still sticking to 7.5 for the moment until I finish my current project.

John, I believe all the New Blue products being used in Edius 8 will have the same Application Manager shown in the OFX bridge install instructions.
        App Manager.png

Go to the start button and open the NB Application Manager. Sign in if not already. If you see your current version of TP2 and serial number, your good to go.
Write down both. To cover your butt, find your current version installer for TP2.
Yes, installing the OFX TP2 file will overwrite your current TP2/TP3/TP4 version.

Install the bridge and TP2. Go to the same NB Application Manager used prior to the install and compare the version number to your previous version. It is more than likely a newer version.
If while using it you develop an issue, you can either uninstall TP2 and then install from the previous installer or just run the installer from your previous version to overwrite the OFX TP2 version.
Uninstalling first will give you a cleaner install. You also have the option of uninstalling TP2 and installing your previous version immediately.

The only thing that is affected with the install is the Titler. If you have Total FX3 that will be quite a bit different. But, if all of your effects are separate, you won't have a problem.

Well I have bitten the bullet, and removed Edius 7 following Anton's instructions and installed Edius 8.1 and the OFX Bridge.

All my NB products installed OK, except I can't see the Starter Pack that came with my original NB Titler Pro 2. I can't remember what FX were in there, so I am not sure if these have been updated to something else.

The NB Application Manager does not show all my registered products and shows NB Titler Pro 2 as a trial version. It will not accept my serial number.

So I guess I will have to uninstall Titler Pro 2 and start with my original copy?

Starter pack was a long time ago. I completely forgot about it.

Make sure you have signed into your account via the NB Application Manager.
Follow the steps below to do the uninstall.

Just uninstall TP2>reboot>install your version of TP2>reboot. If your serial is still not accepted, contact NB Support.

I'm not happy with the way the OFX bridge works.
The bridge works like a plugin that manages plugins (OFX).
So Edius always sees the bridge only, not the desired OFX plugin.
This causes that you wouldn't see the desired OFX plugin in the Edius effects list.
You always have to apply the bridge plugin first before you can apply the desired
OFX plugin inside the bridge. That is a bit disappointing because of the annoying
                  workflow.

When the bridge was announced first I was hoping that OFX becomes native in
EDIUS. Will this be changed in future?

I was afraid of that! :(
So it is a step forward & a step backward at the same time.

In the very first moment I was thinking that outsourcing the bridge to a specialist is a
good decision to keep the developers hands free to let them do better work on NLE core stuff.
After having a closer look to the bridge & seeing how it works & that it's not a native part
of Edius I have changed my point of view. I expect additional workflow issues to the already
                      existing ones.

OK, so please integrate it to Edius in the way of having OFX plugins registered to the effects library for simple & direct access.

What I can't see stated anywhere is the proposed advantage of the OFX bridge, as the intro to it is somewhat brief on the downloads page. Could somebody say what that actually is?

Without OFX installed, I cannot use NB GPU acceleration as by experiment it is limited to 32 CPU logical cores, I am running with 64 logical cores (which was by testing the limit in Edius 7x, and I have not yet re-tested 8.1 by upping it to 72 in the bios - Edius 7x would only see 32 logical cores if I made the PC have 72 available).

If I try NB GPU acceleration set to on, the GPU acceleration crashes and gives a constant psycho paint effect, which can only be cleared by turning the GPU acceleration off and leading to needing to render before play.

This problem has existed for some time now for me, and reported to NB and was with the Nvidia Quadro 4000 and now with the GTX980Ti there is no change, so it would seem to exclude it being GPU hardware related.

Is this fixed with the OFX bridge?

Edit this problen with NB GPU acceleration limited to 32 logical cores does not exist in Premiere Pro on the same PC
