Keep in mind that Panasonic's current competition records less chroma information in the most commonly used 720p modes than the EX1 at full quality, and with 1/2 the discernible resolution measured in TVl/ph. And if you really want 4:2:2 color with the EX1, just attach the convergent XDR recorder due out early next year.

The EX1 has a good set of design decisions for the price, and the footage from it can be played directly on most computers or Blu-ray players. Much better for some of us than the HVX200, or anything Panasonic can produce unless they come up with some better sensors.

We're watching for Edius' capability to handle the Convergent-Design XDR portable flash recorder's 4:2:2 50mbs/100mbs as well. Also the I-frame only 160mbs looks interesting.

Plan to feed the XDR from the HD-SDI off of the XLH1 and XHG1. Convergent notes some NLE's will support these formats, but Edius is not currently noted on the list.

I hope GV is going to support this device's formats - looks to be a great portable solution for 4:2:2 color space.

I get realtime 1920x1080 50i playback of native EX1 files, with colour correction filter, although adding say, slo mo, it gets a bit tricky. If you convert to Canopus HQ of course it all runs real smooth. If however you add say a 1920x1080 EX1 HQ file to a DVCPRO HD project, things slow up as the realtime downconvertion takes its toll.

Reading posts on other forums shows people struggling to get any sort of decent playback, let alone realtime, so Edius is looking good, and will be even better when 4.6 shows up with full support for the EX1. It's the beauty of the NX card.

All this said, you do need "Broadcast" to make it work at all.

I don't see anybody doing native 1920X1080 XDCAM in software only for a very long while (I mean in a productive way), without hardware support HD is just a dream.

P.S. Mr. Hiro where is the HD "Storm" card? You can always find some spare time away from your retirement to develop such a card, look at it as an hobby. We could even call it Hiro's Dream!
