  • Unable to export to h.264 in SD

I'm editing in SD today and finding that I cannot export to h.264 in this format. Getting an error message: "Could not use the selected format, please confirm setting". When I edit in HD, all works fine. I am attaching a screen shot of the error....could someone please advise what setting I might have wrong? Edius version is 6.08.

That feature is in Edius 7.5 and Edius 8. I don't have 6.08 installed but I do have 6.54 installed and I get the same error.
Have you thought about exporting the clip as an mpeg file and importing into Handbrake to convert?

      Only guessing the following solution:

Sometimes, when I have an HD project and want to render a low-resolution-preview for customers, I choose SD mp4 and get an error message that this would not be supported from the native projects settings. It then helps to change export settings from 25p/50p to 50i or vice versa. This is rather a work-around than a real solution, but for a fast result it should do.

However, I would be interested in the real solution, too.

yes, be sure the project setting is set correct

also, if interlaced NTSC 720x480 as seen in your screenshot, you must set the project setting to upper field first, H264 exporter will no allow lower field

I tested with the attached preset and it works fine

but Handbrake (free) does a much better job and you can so 1280x720 at only 2000 bitrate and it will look great for customer preview

But if you are capturing in SD it will be in Canopus DV which is lower field.

The key is the interlaced project setting with Edius 6.54. I was able to export a progressive 29.97 file from the interlaced setting.

that does not matter, as long as the project setting is upper field, the DV lower field footage will look fine, it will become upper field after export

I only ever use lower field if I need to output to DV tape or I need to give someone a DV file
