  • Pixel ratio like 18:10 in EDIUS?

Recently I did something unusual: Open a MPEG file (SD) recorded from DVB-T stream (AverTV, just in case someone knows it).
In EDIUS the picures seemed distorted (too high), and EDIUS was assuming a 1:1 pixel aspect ratio.
When opening the same file with Videolan's VLCplayer, the movie seemed to have the correct aspect ratio. Using the calculator, I guessed a ratio of 18:10.
When trying to set that ratio in EDIUS 8, I realized that that ratio is not available, and no user-defined values are possible. So I used the layouter to distort the movie to the right proportions.
I thought I'd let you know... Another question: Why can VLCplayer get the aspect ratio right, but not EDIUS?

can you view the properties of the file in mediainfo (free) in tree view and report the reported pixel dimension and aspect

once we know, we can recommend what to do in EDIUS

I think the problem is less headers, but more EDIUS. See my previous post with metadata.

when you install mediainfo, you decline the optional crap, I should have mentioned that, mediainfo asks if you want to allow or decline

your file info shows a clip of very poor quality with variable frame rate

in any case, you can adjust to make the full frame fit with the layouter, because the file info states the clip is 4:3 and used to be 16:9 originally

mediainfo displays both DAR and ODAR when there's a potential problem (see this post).

DAR is from MP4 container and inherited from QT specs. ODAR is related to the stream. According to the atoms, your file contains a 16:9 ratio sequence encoded into a 4:3 stream... pasp atom values provided with mediainfo debug may help gettings things more clear.

For such situation, I am not sure EDIUS has some "best effort" heuristics to guess which PAR and frame size to use. I am afraid you'll have to fix this yourself.
