the source browser can't capture from a DVD player

you need a DVD burner to add and transfer to bin

if the DVD was made with a standalone DVD Recorder, it will fail in EDIUS

I need to bring a file in from a DVD (original material edited in EDIUS, and DVD compiled with Encore) so that I can use it as a reference when repairing a later version of the timeline that has got corrupted — I intend to use it temporarily P-in-P so that I can match the material and edit points.

I've selected the material in the Source Browser, and Added it to the Bin — the M2P file is shown in its properties as 3.62GB, but the duration in the bin is only 1 frame, and apparently can't be lengthened. Where did the rest of it go, and how do I access it all?

this is caused by the fact that you are using a version later Than EDIUS6 where reconstruct files has been removed in settings

in later versions of EDIUS, you can play with the following settings, try as seen in attached and see if it works, and if the setting is already on, turn it off and try

if it still fails, use TMW5 source wizard, it always works

or use PgcDemux (free) to demux the DVD to elementary streams, it always works

Seems to be something to do with the system
Have had the same problem, worked on my laptop but not on my main system
Since changing to Windows 10 it now works on both, no guarantee that will help but all came good here after upgrading

              Anton —

Many thanks — I tried changing the settings, but no joy. So I Googled 'TMW5 source wizard'... and got this forum page!

I've downloaded it, and will give it a try. It's no big deal if I can't achieve it on this occasion, but having learned that this facility is/was available from a DVC tutorial, I was a bit miffed when the second time I came to use it (after the upgrade) it failed to work!

Barry — thanks, too, but I'm loath to try W10 yet!

I forgot to mention that you need to close EDIUS after making the change and delete the Transferred folder

if this folder is not deleted, the source browser will not replace what is already there

then start EDIUS and retransfer the DVD, it should work with the opposite setting of what it was, can you confirm what yours was set to?

sorry, TMW5 is no longer available and TMW6 has a yucky interface, all faded items with blue highlights

here is how it works in TMW5

and here you can buy TMW6
TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 6 - The best video encoder around now supports 8K video output with H.265/HEVC.

No, sorry Anton — whichever setting I use, the disc reads away for ages in the disc burner (it's a 1-hour track I'm trying to import), but when it finally arrives in the bin it's only 1 frame long.

With either setting it appears in the Transferred folder of Explorer as a 3GB m2p file, but if I drag it into the bin the result is the same. M2p won't play in Windows Media Player, so I can't tell if it's been ripped from the disc OK, but the size of the file suggests it has.

As I may have said, it's no big deal in this case because I'm only using it for a reference (and could capture it through a link from a player if I needed), but if for some reason I'd needed to import in best quality to incorporate in a project, then I'd be in a pickle.

A shame — if anyone has an alternative answer I'm willing to give it a try.

                    Regards, GRAEME.

in that case you need to either revert to EDIUS6.08 or use other means like PGC Demux
