I had this problem with some Ursa footage on one setting and it required editing the HEX code of the clip with virtual dub to fool Quicktime into thinking the clip was a format supported under Windows. I cannot remember the exact procedure now unfortunately but as it is complicated and risked ruining the files.

Thank you More4K. I'm going to borrow my friends mack and use FCP or put my Resolve 12 studio on it and convert from there.

I am not to exited to mess with the code in all of those files Dave. I'm not brave enough.

I just hope Apple will change it sooner then later. I like doing all may editing in Edius with out the need to convert anything.
This is also bad for Resolve users who only use windows PCs and need to use original clips.
GrassValley_PS, I will be doing some shooting to morrow and take one 444XQ sample clip and put a link to it in here.

I thought it was you More4K. I just did not have time to search for the thread. It did work though and was tedious.

It will re-tag ProResXQ as ProRes444 in batch, so files will work on PC and on Mac without ProResXQ component.
It's stand alone application with bit of GUI and feedback. It uses mediainfo and process files very fast ( around 1 sec per file). Files are changed "in place", so please always have a backup!

ProResXQ files are exactly the same as ProRes444, except use higher bitrate.

PM me if you want to use it.

Windows version can be also done- just .bat is very limited and I don't know any more advanced scripting language on PC. If anyone wants to do it please let me know. It's as simple as running 2 cmd line tools in batch and passing result from one to another.
I've put some stuff in the Lounge. Any feedback is welcome.

Another (probably simpler) util to make them compatible.

                      People,

I've made another util to make the files compatible.
                      Get it here:
                      http://www.videotoolshed.com/product/79/fourccchange

Sadly, it's not free, as I do this for a living.
On the bright side, I do give support.

Mail me direct if you have any questions / suggestions / bug reports,
or have files that are not compatible.

                      Bouke

                        Hi Bouke
Welcome to the forums. Loudness Change has proved invaluable and the responsiveness of your support and advice was second to none.
I'm sure for those who want to work with XQ your util will be worth every €
                        Cheers
                        David

A great, fast & easy to use tool!
It can change fourCC in place to make 444XQ files read in QT for Windows!

                          Thanks for the good work.
Will buy it when it's available in shop.
