  • Video Shutters While in Timeline and in Hard Drive

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but my videos are shuddering or jerking back and forth from time to time within the timeline and after it's downloaded into my hard drive. I checked the camera and played the videos back from the camera onto my monitor and there is absolutely no shuddering at all. The only time the shuddering is visible is within the timeline and within my hard drive. So if you could guide me it would greatly be appreciated. I've tried recordings in MP4 and AVCHD both at1080p

    Thank you

Has playback always been like this? If not, look at the list below. Let's keep the Bit Depth to 8 for this question.

    1. Do the project settings match the clip properties. Download MediaInfo to look at the properties.
Post a screen shot of the Project settings and the clip properties from Media Info.
    2. If these match, what are your buffer readings? This will be found at the bottom right of the Edius panel.
    3. It should have a configuration similar to ???/???. Is the second number lower than the first number?
    4. If the 2nd number is a 5 or a 10, post a screen shot of your Audio Mixer.

Those are 60p clips. I didn't see what your processor was but those will take a lot of extra CPU power. What is your buffer reading during playback?

The buffer reading Jerry wants is in the bottom right of the timeline. Play the clip and observe the 2 buffer numbers and report that.

You might want to come forward a bit on your version. There have been a lot of fixes since 7.21. Do you know which processor you have in the Dell? The most expensive chip installed in that computer was the 4790.

Here's something you can try. Find the clip in the bin and right click on it. Go to Convert and choose File. Name the clip and click save. When that file is done converting, place it on the timeline and see if it will play.

Not sure what you mean by converted file?

I tried all the settings in the buffering and the video is still jittery. Right now I have it set on 512MB and it's buffering at 127/128 and still jittery

I have 16 GB of RAM

Follow the instructions in post #7 to convert to either an HQ or HQX file. Try the converted file to see if it plays better.

I tried converting to HD and HQX and the problem still remains. There's a few different ones that I tried and still hasn't changed anything. Why don't we pick it back up again tomorrow when cooler heads will prevail. Thanks for your time Jerry and the rest of ya's.

Do files in 59.94i play ok? Usually, converting to HQ takes some of the load off of the system and files play better. Also, check to see if the layouter settings are at 0 across the board.

After you converted the files did you replace the files on the Timeline with the converted ones?
                            They are not replaced automatically!
                            Easy to do
Change the name of the directory where the original files are
Use the replace offline files dialogue to recover the files

Just adding this from looking back on the post
!: Are the original files 8 or 10 BIT?
2: Where did they come from?
3: There could be a mismatch in the Project settings, and this will cause a slow down of the system
                              MISMATCH from Post #3
                              Project settings
HQX Render codec, HQX is normally associated with 10 bit video BUT the quantising method is set to 8 bit?
IF video is 8 bit this slows my system! in a HQX underlying project or vice versa
If the Video is 8 bit set Render to HQ!
4: Audio is set to 8 Channel? Set to 2 channel
5: Set Overscan to 0% (set to 3)
also set your buffer to 15 frames and 2G (At the moment you have 5 frames and 512M), that is what i use for 50p
