However, if you are wanting a card manufactured to the same standards as GV would, look into AJA. These are well made cards and the drivers are excellent. You get what you pay for though. AJA cards are priced along the same lines as GV cards.
I'm sure there will be a list forthcoming of 3rd party cards that Edius 8 will support. At this point, you just have to wait.
      I hope you're wrong :)

I very much liked the edius software and Canopus hardware combination of quality and stability, for me this was what made me stay away from the rest.

I'm not looking forward to half baked 3rd party support, you can get that with all the other NLE's.

I am aware of AJA quality hardware but who is making the driver to tie it solid into Edius ?

It's not that I worry much for myself as I'm only using it as a (serious hobby) and I have enough tools with Edius 5.51 and my current Canopus hardware.

Just a bit puzzled by GV direction........

It comes down to money. Why should someone pay $350 for an HD Spark when you can get an Intensity Pro for $189...and that includes capture.

Take that analysis up to the Storm 3G vs a Decklink Extreme. When it was released the Storm 3G was in the $1600-$2000 price range. The Decklink Extreme has always been $1,000. Now it is called the Decklink 4K Extreme...for the same price.
Then if you wanted to do dual stream 3D you had to purchase another item for $900. The Extreme did it natively.

So, do you get where I'm going here. It's more cost effective for the GV engineers to finesse 3rd party drivers to work with Edius than to go through the cost of R&D and manufacturing to sale that same card.

The issue isn't just the hardware its the unfriendly capture formats offered by BMD with enormous file sizes, no HQ or HQX for instance. That's where the integrated GV hardware solution worked.

Hopefully there can be more cross talking between GV and other card manufacturers to make them more flexible on the capture side.

I have been using version BMD 10.4 drivers for a long time now with no issues, excepting they played up on install process.

What we also need is UHD/4K 50/60p out from Edius currently the card works with Premiere Pro in the same PC but Edius can't do it.

I am looking for multicore improvements as my system is bios nobbled at 16 plus 16 cores as Edius recognises that as 64 logical cores but with 72 available Edius defaults to 36 and then some playback uses all cores some like MP4 doesn't but with 64 it does. Also the CPU is not pressed in my system even when playback stutters so optimisation to go yet here.

I am also looking for a wider MP4 ability to play some 4K formats it really hates. Variable frame rate for instance.

I'm pretty sure you can capture HQ or HQX inside Edius using BM cards

Lots of BMD cards have RS-422 but it can't be used with Edius.

Exactly, if GV are slowly going to phase out their own hardware then the RS422 control needs to work on third party cards.

Also the source input needs to be switchable from the capture pre-set within Edius hopefully this will go along with series 10 driver support

Certainly the BMD desktop video control panel is now much nicer than it used to be with 10.4 driver and the ref lock indicator is now stable.

Should not be, if I'm not wrong it's making use of the O.S. (windows) burning disc software and that is very basic.

Too bad Edius can't make use of imgburn.......

It does not make sense to speculate on what is coming in the future, so I won't do that, but no change in the original 8 release.

I found a source that states, HD Spark will continue to work with Edius 8. From the horse's mouth http://www.grassvalley.jp/products/edius_pro_8.php Enter the website into Google search box and click the translate link in the search results.
You will find supported hardware at the bottom of the page.
I understand from DVC UK that the HD Spark won't be available when sold out and no more drivers updates for new computer specs.
No need to upgrade my system now that will be a great saving, thank you Grass Valley Japan.

Edius 8 cost to Users and availability?

I looked at the Edius 8 page at GV. Looks like 8 Pro can be downloaded as a trail, but Pro-vs-Workgroup versions makes me think that Workgroup is the better way to go.

Still wonder as to the cost for current Edius Users who have purchased Edius 7 before April of 2015?

Also will the upgrades be available through the registered products page? or only through 3rd party dealers like BHPhoto and Videoguys?
