  • 24 frame vs 25 frame

I filmed and edit my film in 25 frame but i need to convert it into a 24 frame uncompressed AVI for further process, can I do this with Edius?

Edit your feature in Edius & export it as usual at 25p.
After that create a 24p project at same resolution & with same audio setup.
Drag the exported 25p based AVI to the BIN & open file properties (alt + enter). Now change frame rate to 24p & field dominance to
progressiv if Edius sees interlaced. Now drag the file from BIN to
timeline. Audio will stay perfectly in sync. The whole movie gets
4,166666 % longer due to the slow down process.

In general, if you film for a cinema release it is the better way to do
this at 24p. Its because the audience is more tolerant to a movie
that got speed up (24 -> 25 for DVD release) than the other way
    around (25 -> 24 for cinema releases).

Living in Germany (were we have PAL (and 50Hz), not NTSC), most cameras (once set to PAL) record with 25fps, so it's very natural you select a 25p format for your project. However, if you want to burn your HD720 25p project to BlueRay, EDIUS refuses (as you can only burn 24p for HD720).
It was the case in EDIUS 6, and I was hoping thing get better in EDIUS 7, but it's still the same. It's hard to understand why there isn't a HD720 25p BlueRay format...
What i really terrible is the inability to change the frame rate of an existing project. Neither can you import sequences from a project with a different frame rate. I ended up with converting projects to Full HD (upscaling), but that extends the encoding time and wastes capacity on the media without improving anything.

Also the method to encode/export each sequence in the original project to a file, just to import it in another project seems unnecessary complicated and not flexible (if you want to change something in the sequence).

And if you have horizonal camaera movement, all interlaced formats are an absolute no-no, because the result just looks terrible.

I wondered: Could I "hack" the project XML file to change the frame rate, so Edius believes the project has the correct frame rate for BlueRay?

Of course I'd prefer if I could change the framerate right inside an EDIUS project, even if I loose all pre-rendered parts and most marks would move by one frame. Many cheaper products don't ask for a frame rate before you actually encode your project. I'd wish EDIUS could be smarter, too.

What he want is maybe possible with NLEs that provide support for multi sequence projects of different frame rate.

            .
Blu ray spec for HD at 720p is either 24, 50 or 59.94 progressive frames that is the spec and Edius will burn all Blu Ray spec frame rates. Whilst it would be nice to be able to have the ability to have sequences with different frame rates in a single project in your case you would be better setting your camera to 24 or starting a 24 project at the start and set all your 25p footage to 24p in the bin prior to editing.
