  • Timeline - 50p project only shows 25fps

Most of my work until recently has been 50i (25fps) but now working on 50p projects in Edius 6.55 and noticed that the timeline when zoomed in to 1 frame shows 50 divisions but the text markers only show 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 0 for every 25 secs . So each time the curser is moved by 1 division/frame it takes 2 frames of movement to show 1 frame change in the player and recorder windows. How do I change the timeline text to read from 0 to 50 fr and also change the recorder and playback windows to change from 0-25 to show the correct 0-50. (ie all 50 frames in the onscreen sequence timecode and displays etc)

I first notice this when animating a title clip (still image) in Vistitler and extending the clips time from 4 secs 2 fr as shown in Edius on clip duration and player/recorders read out to match another clip shown by edius as being 4.04. Whilst I expected in Vistitle to make the clip 2fr longer when actually I had to extend it by 4 frames to 4.08 as Visitle was correctly working at 50fps and the clip in Edius was actually longer than stated.

Has anyone else noticed this and how can I change edius to correctly display the frames as at present I have to double up the frame readout shown in Edius.

    thanks Peter

It's rather confusing, is it the same in 7.5?

yes, this is because PAL timecode spec is always 25fps

        Thanks Anton.
I am working in HD 1080 50p so rather surprised to learn that we are still working to SD PAL standards.
Does NTSC edits have a similar problem with HD 60p?
Vistitle manages to show correct frames in HD 1080 50p for titles so was expecting Edius to do the same.

HD PAL has the same timecode standard, when you step through timeline frame by frame in a 50p project, the timecode will advance every second frame, this is normal and is a limit of the TC standard, this standard was not designed by GV

The read out and timeline in Vistitle seems to work as I would expect so if they can do it correctly I find it difficult to understand why Edius have not changed so that it is correct.

Do other video editors such as FCP and Premiere etc follow Edius or Vistitle methods for 50p?

If your source is 50p/50i than you should see update every frame.
              Thanks Andrew.

I have 50p video in a 50p project and it shows 50 divisions on the timeline when zoomed to 1 fr (correct) but the text above these divisions (individual frame marks) is only 0 to 25 frame at every 10 frames but it says 5 fr up to 20fr. Also in the recorder and player windows the curser time only goes up to 25 so when curser on say 5 sec 44 frames in the timeline the timecode shows as 5 sec 22 frames, if on 5 sec 45fr then timecode still says 5 sec 22 fr and only changes every 2 frames.

Also if I hover mouse over a clip on the time line that has a clip duration of 6 sec 27 fr it says it is 6sec 13fr in duration. This makes it very difficult when working on titles etc in other progs to match clip length.

Have not tried a 100p project but based on this it would be rather confusing if every 4 frames were to display in 0 -25fr code

50i, 50p, 25p is PAL frame rate and not NTSC frame rate, it is used in PAL countries so I call it HD PAL, you may call it something else, that is fine with me

EDIUS displays SMTPE Timecode which is 25fps regardless of 50p or 50i or 25p project setting
