I installed the codec pack from Jerry's link on 7.32.
I still could not open the file.
It is all academic now as my friend has gone back to his source and requested mp4.
What is the Avid Pack/plugin referred to?

As I wrote some posts earlier, it covers QuickTime version of the AVID codec only!
      Not MXF!

The only way to get the MXF option is to buy the license. I think the last price I saw was $499 US. David should be able to help you with that.

Well here is a turn up for the books.
My media trainer friend contacted his source who told him the file would play in VLC player - it did and would even convert to mp4.
Bizarre that something like VLC can decode the file on a bog standard laptop and Edius cannot read it. (not to mention embarrassing learning something from a colleague seeking my help).

And Edius will see codecs and containers that VLC can not.

There's no comparison between the two. Can you edit a multi-cam theatre pieces on VLC? I use a codec pack on a PC media player that will see more than VLC can.

One simply has to only play linear files, and one does a lot more in a none linear fashion.

Like my three and three quarter year old nephew always says, "uncle David do you think that Umizoomi is the best thing ever?" To which I reply, "I haven't got a clue what you are talking about". And when I ask him, "don't you think that Edius' ability to mix multiple resolutions with multiple codecs in real time is better than sliced bread?" Then he says, "Oh come on uncle David, Edius has been able to do that since the year dot, when no one else in the NLE world could" To which I say, "but what about the fact that Edius is still the best NLE ever in the world for realtime performance, full stop, without the aid of a GPU or dedicated DSP?". Then he says, "I haven't a clue about that, but I know that there's some great strawberry ice cream in the fridge".

"There's only one thing more powerful than knowledge. The free sharing of it"

If you don't know the difference between Azimuth and Asimov, then either your tapes sound bad and your Robot is very dangerous. Kill all humans...... Or your tape deck won't harm a human, and your Robot's tracking and stereo imagining is spot on.

Is your Robot three laws safe?

Strawberry Ice cream... now we are talking.
The point I did not make well was that whatever decoder VLC uses, it's shame that Edius cannot access it. That is NOT a complaint.
I did try a conversion and for some reason the mp4 would not import into Edius but the TS wrapped H264 did.
All academic as the Training Gig was yesterday..but one I will store in a braincell.
