  • audio sync and volume problem

Hello all and thanks for your help on this subject before.
I will just bring you up to where I am with Edius 7.4 and the spark card.
After researching this problem both with my own threads plus others I find myself as follows.
Having just moved editing studios within our existing building we have upgraded our graphics card to a [nvidia geforce gtx 760] and [KRK G3 rokit 6 monitors].
    So from deducing from threads,
I have come out of the spark card upto my samsung 42" 6100 led tv monitor with HDMI and because of keeping lip sync and audio together I have then come out of the tv spdif/optical digital out into a D2A [digital to analogue converter] which has 2x RCA out [one red and one white] which I plug straight into the rokit G3 6s.....Great
Great sound and everything is in sync better than the latency I have found when coming straight off the back of the spark card RCAs.
But everything is really really loud and the rokits have to be turned way down low but I have also enabled the edius audio mixer master from off to master and reduced that down as well.
My problem now is the high volume coming back down from the samsung tv plus where am I now with my preset audio reference level?
    for-instance where is -18db?
Thanks for any help on this in advance
    Regards

for best results, use an audio amplifier with HDMI in and out like Yamaha (most have at least 4 HDMI in, so you can quickly switch to various input sources such as Blu-ray player)

go from Spark to Yamaha via HDMI and from Yamaha to TV via HDMI. Sound and vision will be in perfect sync and you can also fine tune if you want to delay audio a bit more in the Yamaha (mute the TV sound permanently)

I use almost the same setup coming out of the Storm 3G via HDMI into a 55" Panasonic and then analog out to a Macke 1202-VLZ Pro mixer. From the mixer I go to the same Rockit 6 speakers (love them) that you mentioned. I don't notice a big increase in volume, but that is a bit moot as I can control it through the mixer.

Also don't judge your volume export by what you hear from the speakers, but watch the peak meters.

        Thanks Anton and Pat,
Constructive and well informed answers as usual.
I will pick up on your comments and try out your variants in my set up.
Thanks again and if anyone else has anymore theories on this,
then I'm always intrigued by this audio sync subject.

          Audio and sync problem

          Audio volume problem.
Before exporting a project the final step that I make is to listen to the audio via the speakers in my HD TV rather than the audio from my Sony amp. Just
recently I replaced my old TV monitor on my editing desk with a larger new Vizio 32 inch TV monitor and as I listened to the balance between the music bed and the voice over I kept noticing that my balance was off. I would either adjust one or the other and then on playback the volume would suddenly go down or up contrary to what I had adjusted. What I found that was causing the problem, was that the TV had a menu option to engage an automatic volume control which I guess is an attempt at controlling large jumps in volume when commercials come on. After removing this option in the TV menu, the corrections that I had made were all off. So I had to go back to the beginning of a one hour and twenty minute project and delete all the corrections and start over. From the description of your setup I sure that this is not your problem. However, it maybe worth going into the menu of the TV monitor to see if it has this option enabled.

          Take care

            Thanks Ronnie,
I did check this adjustment in the tv monitor and yes it does have a facillity for [Auto volume] but I have it unchecked.
            Thanks for your advice though.
