  • Audio is different level on export help

Hi i am having a lot of audio problems i have two projects now i can not get the audio right on.
When editing i have everything sounding good at the right levels but then when i export to HD and then play back my music tracks all are then way to loud and my video audio or people talking are way low in the mix now making it all sound bad.
the music ends up sounding two times louder then my video audio tracks so background music i have set very low behind people talking when exported ends up as loud as the people talking.
Most of the music tracks i have set to -19db pulling the VOL mix down

What am i doing wrong or what can i do to fix this.

    My export settings are
    Video CBR bitrate 13500 1920x1080 quality 100
    Audio CBR bitrate 128
    saved as windows Media wmv

    Thanks

How are you judging your sound that you hear in the project? Are you watching the Audio Peak Meters?

Sound mixing can get strange, especially if it combines use of stereo and mono effects, mix downs, or was acquired using a combination of balanced and unbalanced sources/devices.

For example a mix down (or L+R blend) from a balanced mic connected to via TRS plug to a unbalanced stereo input can result in phase cancellations and a very low level of that sound under certain listening situations. It might sound OK in head phones, but poor on a TV.

What is the history/path of the sound from the talent to the listeners hearing problems.

A guy talking was recorded into the camera with a stereo small shotgun mike the level was not all that loud and i had a lot of background noise that i worked on removing with the EQ.
It all sounds ok not great by far on playback but when exported the guy talking gets mixed down into the mix so he no longer is standing out.

I tried to bring his level up but it starts to distort.

No i have not been watching the Audio Peak Meters i do not even see any to watch i am new at using Edius how do i turn them on? I had to watch some how to videos to see i had to drop the EQ on a clip to make that work.

My other video is 15 min with a lot of music tracks and i can not seem to get them to be the same level one song will be so much louder then the next i even used the record nodes to set up and down sound mix but when exported they get louder then the other sound from the video track again.

CTRL G will toggle the meters ON/Off at the bottom of the monitors. Also you may benefit by changing your audio monitoring mode that where you can hear all mono channels on both speakers.

can you make sure you have audio monitoring option switch set to off in the audio mixer of EDIUS, otherwise you will hear incorrect sound while editing and it won't match what you export

                      why?

if for example he has it set to mono and he has a voiceover on left channel, he will hear the sound from both speakers and it will appear loud

then if he exports and plays back the resulting file outside EDIUS, the volume will he half of what he heard while editing and it will be left speaker only
