audio on clips disappeared

Recently noticed that the audio on video files only play when they are dropped on the edius timeline - not when I click on them outside of edius. Anyway have any ideas?

what program are you using outside EDIUS and is that program capable of playing that sound in question?

inspect the file with mediainfo (free) to see what sort of audio it is

I have the clips on the hard drive, click on their icons, and the audio won't play out. Also when imported into premiere pro cc, they play out fine but no audio. Only get audio off the timeline in Edius. Digital speakers are connected in the back.

if you use output hardware in EDIUS such as Spark or Matrox or BM, the PC speakers will be disabled

if EDIUS is set to OHCI preview device, the PC speakers will work

but PC software players can't play all audio types, so it is important that you inspect the file to see what audio codec it uses

In control panel, look under sound>playback and check what your default output device is.

Thanks Anton & Jerry. I hooked up some separate speakers running on the PC and the audio was fine. I have a setting or some wires not connecting and will mess with it this weekend. Thanks for the trouble shooting guidance.
