  • batch export default save options

The batch exporter is one of my favorite features of edius. I've been using it quite a bit lately and there are two things that are really bothing me. Surely there must be a solution and I'm just not doing it right:

    1) How do I set a destination directory for all items on the export list at once?

Each item defaults to the project directory and there doesn't seem to be a way to, say, save all the files to a directory on a NAS volume mounted as another drive. I can go in and edit the save location for each item, but it gets a little tedious with a large batch list.

    2) Can I set the default filename to be something else?

Ideally, I'd love my exported file names to default to the same names as my sequences. To me that makes intuitive sense, but clearly it didn't make sense to the individual implementing batch export. Export names default to something like "Export_00.ext" which has no obvious tie to the sequence it was generated from.

After reading through the EdiusWorld documentation, I don't think either are possible.. but I've been wrong before. Any ideas? (other than grepping through the ews file and regexp replacing items that match the defaults?)

    hmmmmm?

when I do a batch export, I click add to batch, then select the export format and browse for the drive and folder location, this can be on a network and I type a file name such as 01

then I mark in and out the next section and add to batch, this time the desired folder and drive location is already selected, all I need to do is type 02

    and so on

Yes, I'm seeing the same behavior if I use the right-click "add to batch" method. The problem with this is I have to select the exporter and a save destination each time I click "add to batch". Maybe I'm just lazy, but it feels like an extra 2 steps if each export is the same.

I've been using the "add to batch (project settings)" right click option.

With this option, the sequence (or subsequence bounded by in and out) is added to the batch list without any further dialogs. I can then Ctrl-A select all items in the batch list, right click, and "change exporter" to all of them in one click.

The problem is the Filename defaults to my project directory and an auto generated file name is assigned to each. I was wondering if it was possible to change this default path and filename somehow?

maybe I should just stop trying to be lazy. Thanks.

I don't right click anything and I don't select the exporter and location on subsequent exports

          Thanks anton.

I think your illustration solves my problem. I was trying to use the "Add to batch (project settings)" option when I should have probably been doing it this way.

What screen cap software do you use btw? I fought with CamStudio for a while before giving up.
