  • NTSC effects in Edius

Has anybody figured a way to correct for overscan reminants with the SMPTE effects within Edius? I just noticed a couple when a widescreen project played on a computer and a 4x3 letterboxed version. I think I can fix it but, I don't like what I will have to do.

Yeah I asked about this a while ago, you can disable overscan individually but not globally. If you use xplode (pro or for edius) you can disable overscan globally.

Let me rephrase that. The SMPTE effects. My mistake. Have you figured out how to handle the overscan on these puppies?

        Jerry ,

I have to look for my documents on this but I think that the smpte transition rule determents an overscan. If I am not wrong there is no 0.
That why on 1080 you still have 16 pixels as over scan. I have to look it up. To many things to remember.

Since there isn't an option panel to adjust settings, I kinda think that it stays that way. For playback in letterbox mode and on a computer, the effect is noticeable....probably more to editors than to viewers.

I was thinking that the effect has to have settings somewhere on the system. If those can be accessed and changed....

By the way, thanks for looking Steve.

I've tried the frame around the overscan method. To me, it draws more attention to it. Leaving it alone, bugs me, but it is not as obvious.

hmm, I thought setting edius overscan to 0 should fix this, did you try that?

Thanks Anton and Steve. That solved the problem and as far as I can tell it didn't affect the other transitions or video. That wasn't the panel I was refering to. I think it used to be in the applications settings at one time.
I may be wrong on that.

So if you intend to use any of those SMPTE wipes, or page curls...make sure to chage the overscan from 3% to 0%.
I haven't used these effects much do to the overscan 'issue' and no apparent adjustment for it.
By the way, these are also rt for you RT guys.

                      Thanks again.

my overscan is set to 0% 365 days per year

it was only usable during the old analogue days, where you could hide the black blanking frame during a transition and the TV sets were hiding the overscan area, so you would never see the left behind frame during the transition

now that people use media players and LCD and Plasma, 0% overscan is the go

3% is great if the product is 16x9 and played on a 16x9 set. When it goes to computer or 4x3 letterboxed all bets are off.
So, 0% is the new default setting. At least now I have a whole lot more effects from which to choose.

                          Once again thanks!
