  • DVD's burned with Edius won't play in some computers

I have edited and burned DVD's in Edius 7 and several people have said that the DVD won't play on their computers (both Mac's and PC's). The discs will play fine in DVD players and some computers, but not all. Any suggestions?

did you use DVD+R or DVD-R

did you use ac3 audio in the movie tab of disk burner?

what video bitrate did you use in the movie tab of disk burner?

Your best bet is to use DVD-R media with a burner that has bitsetting/booktype support to allow the disk to be marked as a DVD-ROM.

        I am using DVD-R media.
        Using ac3 audio setting
Video bitrate is set to 8.0

Isn't it DVD +R that allows this?

What brand of DVD-R media are you using?

7.5Mbits is much safer than 8 for compatibility.

The whole purpose of VBR is to set a lower average bit rate like 5 and a maximum of 7.5, otherwise you might just as well use CBR if the average is close to the max.

I am not familiar with the bitrate at all. It's on 8.0 because that's what the "automatic" setting in Edius was. So, should I use 5.0 or 7.5 or in between?

You might want to try a better brand of disc, the Phillips ones are not very good

You are absolutely correct, it should have said DVD+R.

JVC/Taiyo-Yuden is what I use. Check your burner's spec's to see what brand discs the manufacturer recommends.
