  • "Relink/Update" media

    Hi all,
I've just arrived at Edius world after many years being an Avid user. This is my first post here so I am sorry if this question may sound dumb... Also excuse me since maybe my English is not as good as it should be.
so the thing is I have been using some high resolution pics which I have placed on the timeline of a project and then manipulated via the layouter tool. The question is.... After building the sequence on the timeline, I have done some retouching to those pictures on an external editor. I have saved the retouched pictures with the same name and onto the same exact directory where I first took them from Edius. Now I notice Edius has not "updated" the changes I have made to these pictures. Is there a way to "relink" this media so that Edius automatically "updates" changes to these pictures?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Jordi.

Welcome to the Edius Help line, no question here is too mundane we are here to help you and each other
Edius does this on the fly providing you save it back as the same file name
If the changes are sutule and you are monitoring on the computer screen monitor you may not see them, that is why people use an output card like HD Spark or one of the other cards that work with Edius to a connected TV monitor

Try this keeping Edius open, save a graphic with all green, place it on the timeline then open the file in the graphics program and change the color to RED and save
The moment Edius is the focus the color of the clip will change
Even if Edius was closed the next time you open the project the clip will update

If you saved it to another names and or directory it will not

    Regards Barry

Also you must not add the pictures to the bin with "transfer to project folder" ticked on the bottom left hand side of the file explorer window.

If it is ticked Edius will refer or link to the pictures in the project\transfer folder which will be to it's own generated file name, and different from the originals.

Then if you then change the original file Edius will not know or recognise the picture has changed because it is no longer looking at it.

I also recommend saving a copy of the original pictures as a back-up in case you do not like your changes.

Without the transfer box ticked it works exactly as Barry says.
