  • adding backup file to current file

Somehow I managed to delete half my project (the first half). I've been working on it for days. I have found a backup file that has the first half intact but not the second.

So, I want to get the first part from the backup and insert it into the current project. How do I do that?

Have you looked at your AutoSave file? That might be better.

I guess that what happened was that I deleted the first half on another day and didn't realise it until today....but I've done a LOT of work today!

Then go to the Bin. Right click on Root and select import. Navigate to your backup file. When it is in the Bin, you can use the nested sequence, or double click on it and it will open the sequence in the timeline where you can copy and paste.

            Phew! Safe.....

When I get the nested sequence onto the time line it occupies only one track. Is it possible to open that up and continue editing it (I haven't finished my work on that part)?

Or, do I have to edit it in the backup file and then import it once I have done it?

Sorry about all this...I obviously do need to read up on nested sequences. I've never used them before.

So, I drag (or somehow get) the old sequence into the new sequence. It appears as 'sequence [x]' filling one track. I have found if I double click it it opens a new tab (took me a while to see that) and voila...all editable.

Then I copy a portion (or whatever) (there are 16 tracks) and then try and paste them into the current sequence...they create 16 new tracks. Only one of my tracks is VA; I can 'pull' the pasted tracks down onto the existing tracks but then my VA is lost because when it was pasted and 16 new tracks created there wasn't a VA created...

              HELP!

Have you got the first video track selected in the destination sequence when you paste from the old/retrieved sequence.

                Cheers,
                Dave.

No! I've always had the top track selected whereas track 1 is the bottom track...just tried it....works like a treat. Thank you!!

I save using a different name for the project file every time I sit down to edit. I do 4 camera shows so start with naming at sync V1 when I set all tracks on the timeline, then Edit V1 , edit V2 etc each time I sit down. That way if I mess up ( which everyone does at times) I can go back to an earlier version. Saved me a few times.
