  • Has anyone noticed that that 4.5x is crap?!!

    Hi all,

I have been using Edius since 3.x. I moved on to 4.1x once the kinks were semi-sorted. When 4.5x came out - i waited till the 4.52 came out thinking that most of the major issues would be sorted. Man was I wrong!!

4.52 installed and everything looked really nice - and I thought that this was what I was waiting for - until I started the edit.

Unexplained crashes, freezing and slooow performance - is not a move in the right direction. I mean things like the timeline in non real time when the audio mixer not working is *not* a "feature". I had to restart the computer and Edius inummerable times - before i could complete the project - which incidentally was delayed by almost 2 days!!

And before people start asking me what settings - this is on a Q6600, with both D3D9 and Directshow tested - nothing sorts things out. Its just plain buggy. I think Canopus should stop shooting off versions and take the time to fix problems before releases.

In the meanwhile if anyone actually wants to get any work done its back to 4.0x...

    - Tired and Disgruntled!

I can atest that going from 4.51c to 4.52 slowed timeline response down significantly. Here is one example...

Prior to 4.51c--if my projects/timelines got longer than 15 minutes, there was a lag when you changed the timeline scale. The longer and more complex the timeline the worse it got. The adjustment lag would get so bad that if you moved the curser before it finished, the scale would keep jumping back and forth depending which way your mouse was headed.

It seemed to be fixed if not improved with 4.51c. I was happy with this release, but disappointed at having to jerry-rig my Imaginate clips.

I updated to 4.52 a couple days ago in the middle of a non-critical 2 hour long project. The VERY FIRST thing I noticed is that the timeline scale lag was back!

Other than that I have not had any crashes and I've been Editing 24/7 since.
My system is QX6700 so horsepower is not an issue here.

I just finished 2 projects on my broadcast nx machine It had 3.61. I waited until they were delivered before I installed 4.52. Both projects work perfect.

        Boy... somebody needs a nap!

I'm running Edius on a Q6700 and my super-snappy Shuttle XPC E6300 and both smoke!

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

          Mr. lalx,
Did you noticed that tnere ara not a lot of compaines about 4.52? There are some bugs with titlers, but that's it... You know, when I do something not exactly as it should be, I am looking at my hands- maybe something wrong with them?
I do not say that I am completely happy with 4.52, I stil want promiced tutorials, I want alpha support and some other stuff, but defenately it is not buggy and defenately something is wrong with you, not with Edius...

4.52 works great for me on a e6600, no rt problem, no crashes and no timeline lag.

While there are some things that need to be fixed in 4.52, I agree with the rest in that it is working fine here. Perhaps an attempt at some info on your problem instead of a rant will enable us to help you out.

I'm finding 4.52 to be a fine performer. It runs cleanly on my P4 3 gig HT machine. Of course I'm only editing SD material, not HD. Lalix, I'm sorry to hear you are having problems, and I would hope you take pjsssss' advice.

4.52 has been fine for me too. Just the TMPro crawl bug is bugging me.

No real problems here either with the V4.52 release, but I agree that Titlemotion Pro needs to be replaced with something more powerful and usable. IMHO, it has no business being called "Pro".

Thanks for the vote of confidence! :)

As I mentioned in my post - I am not a complete newcomer to Edius. I was completely surprised at the problems I faced - especially since 4.01 had no issues (on the same machine!). I just upgraded - and that was all.

On another note the timeline i have is an HD one - perhaps people who have been posting without issues are on a SD timeline? I cant really see what I could be doing wrong...

Pardon the rant! But you would rant if you had to go through what I went throuh...

I edit in HD as well and no problems, I do only use 4.52 in Software only, are you using a card This seems from other posts to be the cause of most problems, drivers etc or conflicts with other prgrams?
Not much help I am afraid other than the problem seems to be with your setup

                          Hi,

I use software only. This was a system that was working well in 4.03. All I did was upgrade to 4.52. Everything else is fine. I have decided to go back to 4.03 - it was working well. *sigh* Lets not fix something that is working seems to be the motto.
