  • How do highlight a document

I'm very new to Edius and I've got a document and I need to highlight a line ( in the document ) then crop and bring the highlighted line to the foreground while the rest of the document is in the background.

Can someone please explain how this is done in just plain simple terms ?

    Thanks very much.

place the document on the timeline twice, say on top of each other in V1 and V2

turn off V1 track for setup of crop

then crop the line in V2 with the layouter, set a start keyframe where the cropped line should start to enlarge and move playhead to a position where enlargement should finish, now enlarge the cropped section

turn V1 track back on and play, fine tune as needed

Let me add a bit to Anton's explanation. This is assuming you want the text highlighted.

After copying the clip above or below itself, drop Mask filter on the top track. Select Rectangle and draw your box around the test. Go double click Mask (in the Information Tab), check Inside Filter and use Color Balance for the filter. Open it and slide the Brightness slider to the right .

Then look under the Outside Filter and change opacity from 100% to 0. Close Mask. Then (in the Information Tab) drag Layouter below Mask.

Open Layouter, increase the size scale of the text and position as desired, and Keyframe as needed.

To complete the effect, go to the bottom clip and make a cut about half way through the top clip text growth. Hit Alt 1 (this puts a 1 second dissolve between the clips. Finally drop Blur on the second part of the clip and adjust as desired.

The final effect is a piece of highlighted text growing from the document with the background blurring as the text comes to a stop.

How to do a highlight and full screen

I posted this about a week ago but I've not seen the thread so I'm reposting again:

        ( ! ) I have a document and I'd like to highlight a line in the document ( preferably yellow color ).

        (2) I would then like to " CROP " the yellow highlighted line and brig it " FULL SCREEN " to the foreground , leaving the original document in the background.

This is a regular effect that is seen daily on the news broadcasts , can someone please explain to me how this is done ?

        Thanks very much.

Okay , of course by now I've learnt how to highlight a sentence in a document , but only horizontally and vertically . Problem is however , I am not able to " crop or highlight " anything that is horizontal .

How is this done and what tool do I use to crop horizontally ?

                Thanks.

Rather than crop, which limits you to straight lines, use the mask filter and draw any shape you like, whether it is a rectangle/square, ellipse/circle, or any freehand shape. Then go to Outside on the right side and change Opacity from 100% to 0%. Everything outside the mask shape will disappear and you now have an "alpha channel" on that outside area.

You can highlight the inside any color you like by using Color Balance as the Inside filter.

This is what am trying to do :

On this page I am trying to crop one the sentences and as you can see they are all diagonally. Can this be done with the mask tool as suggested or is there another way to do it ?

                      Thanks.

Do you want to keep them diagonal? If not, use Layouter to rotate the document and then apply the mask.

Thanks guys , things are going great with the exception that when I use the outside filter along with reducing the strength of the the opacity filter no action is taking place. I know that the outside area is suppose to become weaker and it is not happening but I'll keep on trying.
