  • Changing Voice Over File Name

I can't figure out how to change the file name in Voice Over.

When I open the Voice Over feature a default name appears. If I try to change that name, it just goes away and doesn't allow me to type a new name.

If I go with the default name and record an incomplete take it loses the default name and I cannot continue with a new take. Instead it asks me to input a file name, which it does not allow. For any take I do not keep, I have to close and reopen the Voice Over feature in order to continue.

Is this a bug, or is there something I'm missing?

    Thanks,

    Doug Collins

What version of Edius are you using? Ah see on your sign off it is 6.08. In my older systems with 6.08 it always worked perfectly.

File naming works fine here Edius 7.31.2939.

I can first select a folder the file is going into, by clicking the folder symbol.

What hardware preset have you set up for Voice over?

I also have observed this phenomenon in one of the 32bit versions.
Not sure what was causing it & I don't remember how it was gone.

        Hi Mike,

In my current setup I am running the mic through my HDV camera, so my preset is the Generic HDV interface.

        Thanks,

Firstly if you type the file name and press enter the VO window disappears.

If you just type the file name and resist pressing enter and press start it works.

Countdown 5 seconds then start speaking you will see that in the record window.

This is I must say the first time I tried it through the DV camera as I have a sound booth.

However I get an undesirable clicking with speech as I am speaking on the playback, which isn't there when listening to record. That was using the TRV 900 3 Chip SD Camera.

Now let's try the HDV Sony Z7 camera. Absolutely perfect, no problem at all.

I have too much fan noise in the room, with the PC and the air conditioner so I use the sound booth.

Tested on Edius 7.31.2939, should be fine (the same) on 6.08.

When I try to type in a new filename, the default name disappears and I cannot type anything.

This is very odd, I have never seen this, but there again not tried exactly what you are doing on the Edius 6.08 set up.

Do the audio meters move when you open the Voice Over Window and speak to camera? I think you indicated you could capture.

Can you capture OK with the HDV camera? -Using Capture

Has it just happened? Did it used to be ok?

Anything changed on your computer? software installed, antivirus etc?

Can you record audio from the mic socket on the computer, and does it give you the same problem with the file name?

If you need me to, I will try it on my 6.08 set up, clearly it is OK on the Edius 7 system, but I use my Edius 6.08 system often for voice overs but I never tried it via the HDV camera.

Got some work to do will try later.

The only other thing I can think of is what firewire/IEE1394 chip is it? (The Texas instruments one works fine others are trouble)

Can you see this and the driver version in the system Hardware some info might help on those items.

The audio meters do work, and I can record fine. Everything works fine with it, except for the file naming issue. It's not a big deal, just a little annoying and somewhat inconvenience when doing a retake.

I don't use this feature very often, so I'm not too bothered by it. I just wondered if there was a quick fix that I was missing. Please don't waste a lot of time trying to solve this for me.

Thanks for your help so far,
