  • Need help and ideas!!!!!

    Dear friends hi!

I have this kind of project

    3 videos.....

1st video is SD PAL 17 min 977 mb

2nd video is also SD PAL 4 min 252 mb

    3rd video is mp4 30 seconds about 10 mb

the 1st video I have to put it on dvd 7 times cause its in 7 different languages.(unfortunatelly they dont have the subs seperatally as an srt file)

the 2nd and the 3rd video has to be in the dvd 3 times each one..

Of course they dont fit in a dvd...... I made some export and I lower the average bps at 4m so everything can fit in a dvd......

but the problem is that the 1st and the second video, the quality as it was expected.....is so so bad. broken edges....a bit blur, soft and so on,something that is normal with so low bitrate.

So any advise in what to do concerning filters before exporting? I tried to add some contrast and sharpness and then export but I really dont see a big difference.

    please tell me your advice

I gather that the 17 minute video has burned in subtitles that you cannot strip or mask.

Are the different languages in the sound as well?

Can you author/write to a dual-layer DVD to give you room for a higher data rate?

SubRip software might allow you to capture the subtitle streams, mask them, and do optical character recognition on them, if that helps.

What are you using to author the DVD?
FWIW: AW5 claims to allow several audio (4) and subtitle (8) streams.

Are you talking about multiple subtitles or multiple audio tracks?

Ether way, Edius is not the correct tool for this job.

Most DVD authoring apps. can do this without quality loss.

the video is in English(audio). but I have it 7 times.each time with a different subtitle (not audio just subs)
          so I have to fit 7 video X 977mb

the second video that its 4 min has to be in the dvd 3 times so 3X252mb

and last the 30sec video 3 times in the dvd , so 3X10mb

thats what I am talking about. thats why i ask how shall I export (to add a filter like contrast to save a bit of quality cause I have to export less than 4000000bps.

          hope you can understand.

and yes dpalomaki, unfortunatelly I can not strip or mask the subs. and for sure there is no time for this.
          pfffffffff

I hate it.......they ask for things that are not able to be done!!!!!

Why not try a dual layer disc as dpalomaki suggested and use a VBR encoder with a higher bitrate?

You could try using a bitrate calculator such as this: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/BitrateCalc

If you have to use the highest possible bit-rate, and cannot use a menu to select which language subtitles to use, the dual layer DVD is your remaining option.

If you must use the Edius BD Burner, simply let Edius decide the bitrate and it will fill the disc.

In the Project Settings Set to Highest Quality relative to your output.

If it is only subtitles that are different for each video, it seems to me that the solution is to use DVD authoring software instead of Edius; use multiple sub-title tracks which the user can select from the menu(s).

Not sure where you get 4mbit from.
Basically 133 minutes of video plus audio on a 4.7GB DVD.

I believe Adobe Encore can do this 1 film with multiple subtitles. The menu would be programmed to pull in the right subtitle track, English French, German etc.

So when you play the video on the DVD it will play the same video each time (no sub-titles burnt in) but with the right subtitle track, however the snag is that if you have already typed out the subtitles on Edius and exported them to individual videos you would have to retype them into Encore, and I would see that will be an annoying job.

From where you are now a dual layer DVD will get the job done.....but next time use a DVD authoring program like Encore.

In Encore you can do things like one long film, a play all button, buttons to play parts of the film (between chapter points) and when the next chapter is reached the play is stopped and it returns to the menu, highlighting up the last button that was selected. It is an exercise in clear thinking logic to get it working using the button properties.
