Do you want to make MPEG2 from an HDV timeline so that you can author and burn onto a DVD?

      Super Easy...

      Edit in HDV
Change Project Settings to SD 16:9
      Check titles and PnP's
      Export compliant DVD files.

720x576 is correct for Pal DVD and be sure to select 16:9 in advanced options

compression can only be decided by you because you know the duration

if 120min than you will need to go as low as 4800kbps total including audio at ac3 256kbps max

if 90 min, then 6500kbps total

if 60 min, then 8000kbps total

if less than 60 min then also 8000kbps total

When you apply for a change in the DVD specs and it gets approved???

I think you got some good advice. If you want 1080 you better go to Blue ray disk.

If there are no Blu-ray burner there yet, and if you want to see your HDV footage on your HDTV, you can burn your HDV footage straight onto a standard DVD as data file, max is about 25 minutes, and this DVD will play on a Sony Playstation 3, now if you don't have a Sony PS3 there either then you are sol, but I guess you can still hook up your HDV camera to your HDTV and play it from your camera.
