Here is a little free hd-speed test program that I uselly run everytime I
install a new HD or using firewire/usb disk.
It will tell you the linea speed, random speed and seek time.
My own disk internal sataII disk are running between 76 and 80 mb per sec.
my firewire400 hd are running about 32 mb per sec.
and the usbII are running about 30 mb per sec.

    try google this title "DskSpeed.exe".

    HD Transfer program

Late last year when I was having HD capture problems, Anton or Pat or someone suggested to me an HD capture standalone program called "D-VHS MPEG2 Transport Stream Capture v03.0.06". Long name - VERY simple program which has been flawless in transfering HDV from my cameras to RAID0. Will also detect and control camera hardware for the transfer. Not one hiccup going to a 1440x1080 *.m2t file. It's been terrific for over 45 hours of transfers, and it's a piece of FREE software.

If you want to try it, go to www.dekudeku.cjb.net , click the "Freesoft" heading, and you'll see "CapDVHS0306.zip English Version." Click to download the zip file.

    Cheers,
    Alan

Just an FYI concerning Scenalyzer. It's a great program but it only works with SD DV so if you're doing HD it won't work.

"Disk too SLow" is a well documented error in v4.5. I too experienced it when upgrading to v4.5 and could only cure it by going back to v4.24.

So far I've not found out a reason for it despite calles and email to the UK distributors.

    Disk to slow

This has several meanings. Too many devices hooked up to multiple firewire or USB2 connections can cause a disk slow window to pop up. A hard drive that is too full might do the same. What are your project settings? Are they the same as the camera format you are importing? I'm just wondering out loud, but if Edius is "scaling" a large clip it might hiccup kind of like getting a "stopped playback" when the audio window is open. Worth trying anyway. Remember, in Japanese "Disk to Slow" or "Playback Stopped" means "I'm Struggling to Keep Up".

No probs. If u used scenalyzer years ago, u should see it now... it's come a
long way. Very very powerful and full support for canopus codecs.

Since I still do SD, I'd really be interested to learn of your finding with HD.

    good luck

Any suggestions with this would be great. When I capture hd 720p in mpeg capture I have no such issues. thanks

I have been using Scenalyzer for years now and can't recommend it highly enough. Features include:

CAPTURING with REAL TIME SCENE DETECTION
    SEAMLESSLY CAPTURE/PLAYBACK
    TIME-LAPSE CAPTURING
    QUICKLY INDEX YOUR TAPE
    SMART BATCHCAPTURING
    EASY STILLS EXPORT

My fav feature is the ability to detect audio/video drop outs and take you to each one in a flash... very very cool.

I'm sure this software will let you put your system thru it's paces.

Many many more features there. The best thing is to visit the site and download the trial version [fully functional but puts a watermark on all footage].

    have a look at http://www.scenalyzer.com/main.html

Try it out and let me know how you go.

    regs,

Are you converting to HQ on the fly?
Try disabling some of the file division possabilities, that often helps for me.
Strip everything off your RAID and see how it works empty.
I never waste my time with defrag, strip-format and replace.

    HDV Split capture program

You might want to try HDV Split if you are working with HDV. It does a great job and it date and time stamps your m2t files.
