A recent hard drive crash has caused me to pursue a new data management strategy. Presently, I am working from an external USB 3TB Toshiba hard drive, and also my laptop hard drive. My USB 1TB GoFlex Passport recently died (I got my data transferred first). And, my Toshiba has a persistent problem of disconnecting every 20 minutes or so. Uugh!
I have acquired 3 new G-Technology drives: (a) 4TB G-RAID, (b) 4TB G-Drive, and (c) 1TB ev drive) to build a strong foundation for data integrity. I'll use the RAID drive for live editing and storage of projects, the G-Drive for storage of originals and RAW data (my still images). And, the ev-drive for on-the-go work and transportation.
> STORAGE & BACKUP STRATEGY
Currently, I have Edius projects on my Laptop's D-partition, as well as on the Toshiba external drive. So, what's the best strategy for Edius projects? Should I keep only live "working" projects on the RAID, and store old finished projects on the G-Drive? Or, perhaps do all my video my work on the RAID and use the Edius backup utility to auto-backup to the G-drive?
> MOVING AND SETUP
Since I have Edius video projects on both my laptop D-drive and my external Toshiba drive, how to I go about moving these projects to the new drives? On some of my early projects I did not copy the actual files into the bin, but on my more recent work I've gotten into the habit of doing that. So, I'm confused as to how to move some of these different kinds of projects.
I am looking forward to whatever help you guys can offer. Getting this RAIDacle on data management is all new to me!
