  • Titler vs TM Pro

I'm still using the default titler in Edius 4.5 and thought abouttaking the plunge with TitleMotionPro but I wanted to know what are the differences/benefits for doing so.

It would be nice to use a script font and have a reveal follow the curves of each letter as words appear on the screen... giving the effect that the title is being hand written. Can TMPro do this? What else?

    Thanks in advance

    Emmanuel

To be honest, Titlemotion Pro is one of my least favorite softwares I have ever come across.

I refuse to use a titler that does not use standard word processing formatting with text boxes as its default method of handling text.

It is very powerful, but I can not stand it.

The basic difference between the two is TMP's ability to animate the text's position, size and rotation. You can't really compare them - TMP is a full text animation package, where as titler is well....VERY basic.

I doubt you could create the effect you want using TMP, you would have to use after effects for that.

Unless I totally misunderstand you, I don't believe TMPro can animate titles any more than one can do with the basic titler. For example, a common effect for titles is a soft fade in with a slow zoom in or movement on the z axis. Allthough titler doesn't do this directly it can still easily be done by creating the title in the T1 track then simply move that title to a video track and use the 3d PIP to your hearts content where you can not only move in x, y and z axis but you can rotate, spin, pan, etc etc and all in real time.

So I ask once again, what can I do in /tmpro that /i can't in titler? Is it really worth the $400 odd price tag?

          Regs.

Well if you know you the answer already there is no point asking? :)

You got the right answer. Tmpro can do text animations all what you asked in the post above mine. You can do 3 text Spin Pan Rotate fly in 3d space. I you want to read up on tmpro

But titlemotion is a dinosaur .
For the hand written illusion heroglyph is way better

There is a new title animation construction kit that works with Edius 4.5 that does this. It writes to the screen in a scripted font as if by hand.

You use it with Edius to make up your own words, you can also save constructed words from Edius with transparent background for future use .

Of course you can get a rough version of the handwriting technique by using the Laser effect in the TitleMixer section

Go to the FX tab... TitleMotion can do a number of 3D type effects on titles.

in tmPro you can type in a spline

                    type in a circle

have the texture of characters animate

                    use sheen, glow etc

each character within a word can be different font, size, style, color etc....

                    excellent broadcast quality characters

forget effects, they are not in fashion

NOTE: TM Pro is a legacy product and won't be updated and works well in all versions of Edius prior to 4.5

Hmm, some worth while features, thanks Anton. But it is a concern they will not be changing things for use with Edius4.5.... since I use 4.51 only.

Heroglyph looks good at the mo'.

as far as I know, the TMPro problem with 4.5 etc will be fixed, this problem was caused by Edius and not TMPro

Thanks for the suggestions anton. With exception of the type on a spline, you can do all the rest with quick titler and keying the titles over moving textures from the keyers/chroma & luma filters... very configurable.
