I don't understand how this is better than the consolidate tool?

Consolidate change all the names of your files.
      It doesn't create folders / sub-folders.
It doesnt manage XML for XDcam footages.
A consolidate on a project already consolidated kills the project.

        Hi:

        Another question:

        I have a "Master-Sequence" and a lot of "Sub-sequences". Each Sub-sequence consists also of Sub-Subsequences etc.

If I lasso the whole Timeline in the Mastersequence: How could I lasso also the other subsequences ... ???

        Regards kurt

It's simply a shame that users are still confrontated with such a dangerous function (by design).
Users complaining about since version 6 & GV takes no action.
It would be so easy to remove the function from menu until it becomes a solid.

The principe is to collect all TL objects .
Then, you have to lasso each sequence and drag it to the bin.

              Andreas.

I think you are letting down your nation for its excellence and attention to detail, If you dig a little deeper this issue was there before E6. Vorsprung Durch Technik :)

              Marc44.

I have not tried your workflow. But, if it does does get around the naming problem, then it is a brilliant suggestion and something that will save the day for anyone who does cinema or long form project sequence based projects. Merci.

              Cheers,
              Dave.

If you don't know the difference between Azimuth and Asimov, then either your tapes sound bad and your Robot is very dangerous. Kill all humans...... Or your tape deck won't harm a human, and your Robot's tracking and stereo imagining is spot on.

Is your Robot three laws safe?

As far as I know, consolidate was working fine in version 5.5.
                Or was that version 5?

The last version for a good Consolidate : 5.51.

The workaround lets also to group elements in a new structure folders/subfolders from others structures scattered on one or more HDD.

Thanks to Marc44 we have a workaround now...

but if Users complain about the consolidate feature since Edius 5.51, then why has this not been fixed, yet?

Today's standard is a completely digital workflow and that means there will always be a lot of footage left unused in the timeline... consolidate should be a standard feature that should work like it is intended to be and not with workarounds...

                    kind regards
                    Marcin

                        Yes, of course.
But , we are waiting for 2 years (or more ) ago.
                        And I can't wait anymore ...

I have always been a little confused about why someone would use consolidate. I know I am just a serious amateur but with file based content my process is to transfer to PC ( to a hard drive I dedicate to source material for just the edit ), backup to tape in my case and then edit. When I have finished editing I delete the source files as I have the backup if I need it, just like I did with video tape. I backup the project files etc so I can reproduce the project completely any time in the future. Even as an amateur who mainly shoots multicam theatre I would not want to loose any of the original project content as I am sure a rework would use something that I had discarded with consolidate?

                              Ron.

If you are shooting feature films, episodal TV, or any long form content and using high bitrate codecs or uncompressed, then consolidation is a real must.

Your theatre and live stuff is essentially single take, were the one take is the master. But drama, movies and long form will have many takes of many slates and scenes. All of these have to be recorded, but some may be bad takes, others may not be needed once viewed in the edit, this and many other factors can dictate the various uses of consolidation.

On our last movie we had 36TB of live raid data across three Edius systems, running as one master and two live mirrored systems, and many temp backup drives. Although this sounds like a lot, it is soon eaten into with massive scene bins, slate bins, day bins, temp files, test run outs etc.

The consolidate function gets used for many things, and doesn't necessarily delete data. If you are working in reels, scenes, or just wanting to manage a large protect, be it large in content count or length of program time. You will need to cut it up into manageable chunks, and this is were it is indispensable.

Also. When you start to move chunks of content around an extended post workflow, it is really needed. For instance. You have a movie or program that is two hours long in 8 reels. You don't have to wait until the whole edit is locked off before going to grade, final effects, titles or dub. In this instance you may already have reel 3 completed and locked, and this can go ahead of 1 and 2 for further post. Again, it is unbelievably dificuilt to work like this without the ability to consolidate.

                              Cheers,
                              Dave.
