  • Exporting to DV problems

Exporting a 720p project shot and captured as HDV1 mts files to DV, I've encountered two problems, one banal and one - which I've experienced a few times, on 5.5 and 6 as well - baffling and weird.
The banal: on this Edius 7 machine, there doesn't seem to be any DV codec options. I assumed there would be a full codec install with Edius. Downloaded codec pack 7.20 but on install, it wanted me to uninstall 7.21 first ... so I pulled out. Not sure what's going on here: I just need to export to MS DV for a client in the US who's given required specs right out of 2001. (QT doesn't appear to have a DV codec installed either- it's very odd.)
Should I install the 7.20 GV pack (it appears to be aimed at HQ, not DV, but claims to include canopus DV.) Or is ther another pack this machine might be missing/which is better?
The weird (and long-standing bug). I foolishly changed the project settings to SD 4:3 interlaced. The picture immediately degraded, and on second thoughts I tried to switch back to 720p. And the bug that's bugged me for years cropped up: all the footage is now seen as 50p, and pllaaayyysss very ssllloooowwwly.
This is a big pain in the neck, and hard to get back to the project I once had ... changing the clips back to 25p manually is slow but worse, doesn't help; running them all at 200% speed also slow but worse, they lose their in and out points; going back to an older backup version of the project, and it STILL reads the footage as 50p, not 25p and plays it out at half speed.
Closing and opening Edius seems to help- but not always, and not all clips.

Correct . And you should never install a GV codec pack on a system with EDIUS unless you like problems.
Also if you are going from HD to DV there are 2 ways :
      1 is enable conversion
      or
2 switch the project to SD to take advantage of Lanczos.

As noted above, I did this ... not sure how to enable Lanczos, but it opened up another unpleasantness when I tried to switch back to HD progressive.
Fortunately re-starting Edius cleared that up.

What happens when you check enable conversion? Does it bring up the codec option for file export then.

You could try creating a new profile and see if that helps with your other issue.
Changing the project to sd and setting lanczos scaling in project settings should get you better quality... Once you have done this see if you have dv tape out available and if so try the file output again.

Rob if you don't already do so get into the habit of versioning your projects with the save as... Then you always have something to go back to.

            Best

As I stated if you want to export DV from an HD timeline select ENABLE CONVERSION it clearly not selected in you attachment in post 4.....(watch attachment)
Its easier for all when you actually try the suggetsions first.

But you will get the best results switching to SD (spec not a weird one)with project settings set to Lanczos High quality and if needed a bit of sharpness.
Most people use this so it not looking like an EDIUS issue.

In SD you will also not get DV as an export option if the field order of the project settings is wrong (ie upper field and not lower field) which is quite easy to do when switching from HD to SD.
