Good points, knowing in the field things rarely go as planned, so I use Mercalli on important shots that demand smoothness.
I also support companies who provide quality products and service at reasonable prices.

I would say that there are nothing free in real world. We have to pay for everything. If you have shaking video- you can fix it but it will never be the same video as taking with tripod.
Using any antishaking software is the last resort to make your video looks better. Better, but not perfect.

I have not checked what version I have yet but in the Cobbett clips as below the wheels look a bit funny and it is a bit soft but it clearly gets rid of the shake. (ignore the other clips)

Maybe the trial version is behind with updates, but the issues with the Mercalli output were just as objectionable as the shaky source that I started with.
    From the FAQs:

After applying Mercalli the video has been reduced extremely.
In addition the borders are very large and shown as blurred areas.
    How can this be avoided?

    and

How does Mercalli stabilise my videoclips?

Knowing ProDAD's support they should get you some answers/fixes for your issues.

I've only used Mercalli on Canopus HQ file formats within Edius 4.51c without any artifacts issues (if makes any difference).

I think it is very nice you don't have any issues.
There is a blur line issue when using underscan.
There is artifacting even when using best "settings" very visible when using Helicopter shot footage and footage where you have flowing water and moving objects.
    The list goes on.
I do agree that their support is very good.

A lot of issues is news to me, can you expand?

I never tried the trial version, but I know that the retail version never had artifacts in my footage only the softness issue which was easily spotted on my HDTV. Now with the latest update it is very hard to see any softness even with frame by frame comparison. This is when I was looking at HDV converted to HQ 480p and displayed via DVStrom2 component-out (480i) to a 720p HDTV.

Currently I'm very satisfied with Mercalli Expert :)

As for quality issues I was getting softness with older revision, but the latest update fixed the softness issue as I was doing frame by frame comparison with 720p/480p footage on a 480p timeline with no shakes.

I also use ProDAD's Heroglyph for Animated Map Routing, Titling Effects plus I use Vitascene for it's RT GPU Filmlook Effects all within EDius v4.51c.

ProDAD's support is top notch! If you have a problems just email them as they respond within 1-2 days (or after a weekend) depending when the email sent.
