  • Nested sequence - transparency won't transfer

I'm running into trouble with something I've done many times before successfully. I have a still (JPEG, PNG) montage on another timeline that I want to drop over video in the main sequence. Normally the "holes" - the areas between and not covered by the stills - will be see-through on the main timeline, but for some reason I can't recreate that now.
Similarly, exporting an AVI clip with alpha yields a solid black background for the stills - no alpha. Yet if I place a clip underneath the stills on the sub-timeline, the see-through effect is in place, so the opacity settings for the individual stills are correct. I'm trying to avoid having to build the still montage on the main timeline, but right now that is the only working option.

Is there a master setting somewhere that I have inadvertently altered?

    I will try that later

meanwhile, my favorite way to do this is with copy/in/out/selected track

I have tested your sequence method and it works fine as long as alpha is enabled in project settings

if fails when alpha is disabled

Yes, that must be it. Thank you so much! I must have changed the setting accidentally.

I find nested sequences useful when overlaying many stills, or video elements, on the top of each other, requiring multiple tracks. I use them as virtual mixdowns, complete with alpha - until today :( , while trying to keep the main timeline as un-cluttered as I can.

        Thanks again!

          Hi Anton:

I also thought that "Video Channels : YCbCr + Alpha" has to be set in the project-settings to work as above mentioned.

The more I am surprised that it works also without "+Alpha" (see the images).

Is that only true with Version 7.x upwards?

I don't see anything that shows that sequence transparency is working in your screenshots

can you place the sequence above a video clip and confirm that you see the video clip below during transparent sections of the sequence

              Hi Anton:

              Sorry.

You are right (of course) !!!!
              I didnt test the transparency.
(The problem was sitting in front of the PC)

              Regards kurt
