If you are going from 6.xx to 6.5x or 7.xx, the dongle will be ignored. It will more than likely install onto each drive if left in, but 6.5x and 7.x won't recognize it for anything.
The only issue that you would run into is if your GV/Canopus card had different firmware for each of these programs.
The firmware is not stored on your system drive. It is a dedicated chip on the GV card that is updated by flashing the chip.
If you don't have a GV/Canopus card, then you should be good to go with separate drives.

        CMOS Checksum Error

        CMOS Checksum Error

I now have two complete systems on seperate ssds
sometimes I get a CMOS Checksum Error when booting telling me about a cpu change. Once I load defaults in the bios the halt goes away. Not very elegant. Others have this isssue too?

          wrong ...
I'm running a dual boot system as logical volume with RAID 0 drives(2xSSD) with Edius 6.5 and Edius 7.x without problems what so ever.

You can do it, but the default when Windows "notices" another Windows installation is to install to a separate Windows directory on the same drive and that can be problematic as files outside of the Windows directory end up shared and overwritten.

As long as you install each Windows on a separate volume it's OK, though bootsector and boot manager is still shared.

Windows is installed on different partitions on the same logical volume.
As said without any problems on several systems since years now.

Can I clone my SSD system drive with Edius 6.5 to another SSD slot then install Edius 7 to new SSD (clone)? If I want to run Edius 7 just replace the drive. Any problem if I do like that? Thanks for your help.

I would think not allowing two separate versions to run on a single machine would hurt sales.

I'm not a power user, but I am not ready to give up something stable when the only way to try another version is to remove my current version.

In my 30 years of using computers, Edius is the only program I have come across that does not allow a user to have two separate versions installed.

I also have Vegas 8. Tried Vegas 11, did not see a real need to keep it at the time, uninstalled it, Vegas 8 still there, no down down, no hassle.

                    Same for Photoshop versions.

There are lots of programs that don't allow you to keep earlier versions on your system. I can only assume that there are reasons why you can't with Edius. Maybe to do with hardware drivers and codecs

                        Edius 6.05 projects in 7

Can I run Edius 6.05 projects in Edius 7? I assume it will convert to new format, but I want to keep the projects.

yes, all my old projects open in EDIUS5, EDIUS6, EDIUS 6.5 and EDIUS7

you right click the EDIUS 6.05 project file and copy/paste, then rename the pasted copy by adding E7 before the dot

then you can at any time open the original in 6.05

May i offer some advice on this issue?
Buy a separate HDD and load it up with the software you need (hell, why not put other software on one HDD just in case you need it) and of course Edius 6.5 on the one and Edius 7 on the other.
You swap out the HDDs when you need to work with the data.
And of course having a USB key to swap the .EZP file around is OK rather than constantly hunting for it on the HDD after you're done with that one.
