  • Deinterlace for WMV Youtube - best method

What is the best deinterlace method for creating WMV 25p video for youtube. I am using Edius 6.55 and currently export from a 1920x1080 50i project straight out to a 1080 25p wmv file. (The videos have limited movement otherwise I would consider 50p, but not sure if YT would then change to a lower frame rate.)

Would it be better to export an HD HQ avi file from the edit timeline and import this into an Edius 25p project so that Edius does the deinterlacing before export or continue with my present method where the wmv export encoder does the deinterlace? I do have Virtual dub and Handbrake available if these would be be even better but easier if can keep within Edius.

My present results are quite good but always looking to learn and improve if possible. Your thoughts and experiences would be helpful. thanks Peter

no need to deinterlace because the wmv exporter automatically does that for you as it creates wmv

Thanks Anton, I was aware of that but not sure if an edius progessive project would do it better before outputting via WME exporter that automatically deinterlaces 50i?

between you and me and the gatepost, I use T5 for making wmv, it creates a sharper result

so basically, export timeline to HQ Fine or Lossless and then use T5 to make the wmv

the makers of T5 are in Japan and I hope that one day they integrate with EDIUS as a plugin the proper way with all options so that we can use the T5 exporter direct from timeline with all options and not throttled like a moped as it is now

Have to look at getting T5, but always held off do to reading about the need to be online for regular activation. My edit PC is not normally online and therefore no AV etc, only connect briefly when absolutly essential.

it will only happen once per month and takes 1 sec

I have no AV program or defender and never had an issue in all the years of using T2, T3, T4, T5

A little known plugin by Revision is Fieldskit plug for AE, also works in Edius 6.5 AEBridge, but not a 64 bit plug, so not working with Edius 7, and probably never will.

Results are extremely good, in my experience, if you really want to pay close attention to de interlace issues.

                Just for information really.

Thanks Paul, looks like a useful plugin if doing a lot of deinterlacing, only downside price is nearly same as T5 which is more versatile for general encoding use.

Tools like Avisynth or VDub are a league on their own...but the learning curve is a fun stopper for many. Wanna write a deinterlace tutorial? ;-)
