  • I can't install Edius Pro 3 on HP Pavilion a6020.es

Two months ago I bought an HP Pavilion a6020.es for editing video and other applications. Its O.S. was Vista Home Premium.
I tryied to install Edius 3 Pro. As many of you know, Edius 3 Pro installation is composed of 9 steps (1/9, 2/9,...). I tryied many times. Always the computer showed that Edius Pro 3 had been succesfully installed when in the first step (1/9) and the computer should be rebooted to complete the instalation! ... Of course, Edius was not installed.
Then I supposed that Edius Pro 3 was incompatible with Vista, so I formatted the PC and installed XP Professional in my new HP Pavilion a6020.es, since I had checked in other computer that my Edius Pro 3 installer worked properly with XP Professional.
And now ... surprise! I experience the same problem in HP Pavilion a6020.es, but now the O.S. is XP Professional! The computer shows that Edius Pro 3 has been succesfully installed when in the first step (1/9) without installing the other 8 steps! Of course, it does not work.
So I think that there is an incompatibility between Edius 3 Pro and the HP Pavilion a6020.es hardware.
    Does anybody know what happens?
    Thanks a lot.

was the HP Pavilion a6020.es on the compatibility list? Did an Integrator/Reseller advice you that it works?

was the hidden system temp folder emptied prior to installation?

I have a pavillion m7760n and Edius works fine. Main difference I notice is the Processor, you may want to check if it's compatible or not. As the reboot you mention, in my experience sometimes it takes long to take back the installation process. One time I had to click again the cd icon to "wake up" the install... dunno. Uninstall and try again. Good luck

        Thanks.
        Antonsvideo:
I don't know where can I find the compatibility list, but I suspect that my computer won't in the list, since it is a multimedia home PC, not a work station designed for editing video. In addition, many colleagues have installed Edius Pro 3 without problems in their home computers without problems. And I have installed this version on a Pentium IV 1400 MHz with XP succesfully! So I suspect that it is not compulsory to be in the compatibility list, though it is a guarantee. Any integrator/reseller told me that it would work. Edius Pro 3 is not so popular as Microsoft Office ...
My Temp folder is almost empty. There is only a file related to the Intel Matrix Storage Manager.

I know the installation process because I have installed it before. I have tryied to install many times and definitely something is going wrong.

from memory, there were incompatibility issues with multimedia PC systems, however I forgot what it was, maybe someone from GV remembers?

Just an observation, is EDIUS 3 compatable with VISTA? I thought I have seen on this forum 4.5 software only or the new cut down version is. Correct me if I am wrong

You are correct - EDIUS Pro 3 won't work with Vista.

Regarding the installation trouble with XP Pro on the same machine - try copying the files off the CDROM onto the Windows XP desktop, and run the installer from there.

Alot of the multimedia system use shared video memory, and somewhere I read a caveat about using shared video memory with Edius, maybe some of the mods know if this is true or not.

Shared video memory generally has poorer performance compared to dedicated video RAM, but I don't know of any fault-causing problems between it and EDIUS.

                      Thanks to everybody.
I tryied to install Edius from a CD-ROM but mostly from the hard disk. Results were always the same.
Perhaps the shared video memory could be causing my problem.
Anyway, I had no more time, so I tryied to install Edius Pro 4. And it works!
I am editing a project created by Edius Pro 3. A few clips have wrong path and I will have to restore it manually, but now I can continue editing.
