  • PIP and full frame questio:-) getting going with EDIUS

OK I thought I posted this late last night? I may have had a dream about EDITING!! Its not the first time But it is the first time I have switched editing software during a busy edit session....................hey ho

This means I continue to need a little help though guys.......

I am trying to transition from full frame PAL to a selection of PIP BUT

When I try and put on a PIP effect on the clip on the same track then place a transition EDIUS puts the whole track into PIP

When I use the track above for the PIP I cant put a transition on?

Do I have to put this into a seperate sequence to get around this?
or am I missing a vital time line property to enable multiple effects on one clip???

    Thanks in advance

You have discovered one of the most often discussed feature of PIP. Some like it, most don't, but that is the way it works. If you connect clips with one PIP and one without, the PIP is transfered to the entire sequence of those clips. So your PIP will have to go onto a different track. If you are using a simple dissolve, you can use the transparancy at the beginning and at the end of the clip within your PIP set up.

Well PJSSSSS Thats a bit nuts IYAM

But I will work with it

I am impressed at just how stable things are with EDIUS

Any other ODD things like this I should be aware of????????

Or is that the JOY of finding out.............

Every NLE has their own quirks. I have worked with Edius so long now, they almost seem normal.

Not forgetting that PnP is a Keyer, then of course the entire track will adopt the PnP settings when linked with transitions.

the way I do this is simple

I pace the incoming clip on track 2 and add a dissolve at the end to the keyer track (you can also cut the end section of incoming clip and move it to track 2)

I place the outgoing 3D PIP clip on track 1 with enough overlap for the transition

It is a little like the old A/B editing style. Fairly Normal.

The keyer track combines so that keyers can be placed on several clips at once. I would be nice to be able to turn it on or off but at the moment this is the way it is :)
