    any ideas on the best specs for a hd wmv that will be playable on average laptops. i tried 1440 x 1080 and playback was jumping went down to 1024 x 720 and playback workfine on a laptop at 5mbs
    anyone with the magic config

        Well WMV is less processor intensive than H264....but just to let you know, my home PC is a 3.0Ghz P4 and 1080p WMV files stutter. 720p will be your safe bet (1280x720) I think.

          I don't think this can be done unless you define some minimum system specs -- there simply is no such thing as "the average laptop".

          Newer GPUs and even some integrated graphics controllers accelerate the decoding of WMV and even H.264, allowing even a low-end CPU to handle HD media. Other systems may have a beefy CPU, but struggle because all the decoding has to be done on the CPU itself.

          You may want to take advantage of the fact that a WMV file can contain more than one media stream, allowing the system to determine which stream to play. If that's too complicated, offer more than one version of your video.
