  • Dual Boot

I currently have Edius 5.51 operating on Vista 32 bit. I want to set up a dual boot system by adding windows 7 on a a new ssd, add more ram, upgrade GPU with Radeon HD7770 and install Edius 7. Anyone see any problems with this? Also, would my existing Spark card work on both? My computer specs are listed in my signature.

I deal with this using SSD drives and a little front loading caddy on one of my systems, this allows me to run the computer as an audio system with outboard interfaces, a dedicated 3D stereoscopic workstation, with associated DCP and 3D graphics software, Edius 6.55 and an Edius 5.5 system - and an Enterprise system for file conversions, choose the drive, fire it up and the required hardware kicks in.

I have a CoolerMaster Storm trooper case and at the top is a dedicated SSD slot built in. That was one of the reasons I went with the case. It makes swapping out my SSD's incredibly easy. I pull one, put the new one in and start it up.

Now if you are referring to a true dual boot setup where you have multiple operating systems within separate partitions on one drive, it is possible.

Since I went SSD and can swap drives faster than selecting which drive to use, I prefer the individual drive over a dual boot.

I have 2 x 60GB WD SSDs for dual booting. Both boots are Windows 8 with Classic Shell to eliminate the W8 Modern UI crap.

Main boot is normal desktop system with all the programs I run except video editing stuff.

Second boot has only those programs required for video editing - Edius 7.20, Vistitle, etc. No internet, no antivirus or firewall.

Works like a charm. W8 boots up so quick that switching from one to the other is not a hassle.
            EDIUS Pro 9.5, VisTitle 2.5, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, dual boot - normal desktop & Edius. i7 6700K O/C at 4GHz, 16Gb Corsair DDR3, MSI Z170A M/B, Corsair H50 liquid cooler. nVidia GTX1660 6GB, 2 SSDs, 2 WD 7200rpm HDDs, 2 x 24" monitors. ShuttlePro 2. Panasonic Lumix GH4 camera
