  • Multi-Clip and Bin Question

    Hello,

I was given a bunch of DVDs to go through and pick little parts out of and put together a final edit.

So I copied all of the DVDs to hard drive, imported the files, put the clips on the timeline and cut up a bunch of small clips.

Now the clips are spread out on the timeline and their source timecodes have nothing to do with each other.

I would like to select all of the clips and add to bin and have them sorted by the timeline timecode (order of how they appear on the timeline). I pressed "B" and the clips are added to the bin but there is no way to sort them by how they are on the timeline. I tried all of the TC options but none of them sort the clips in the correct order. The clip names are not relevant either.

So is there a way to accomplish what I am after?

    Thanks

clips carry their own tc not the timeline timecode. (unless you export them and tell EDIUS to replace the tc with timeline tc)
So I guess you either manually arrange them in the bin or just delete the gaps on the timeline.

I ended up sliding them down the timeline but I find myself in this position a lot. Chopped up clips spread out on a timeline that I want to condense into a tight group for output or all together for quick editing.

If it can not be done now, I would like to put in a formal feature request to be able to sort by original position on the timeline or something of the sort to keep chronological order once placed in the bin.

      Thanks

What's wrong with deleting all the gaps?

This project was 7 DVDs that were spread out on one timeline. The timeline was full past the 9 hour mark! I went through and cut small sections out and lifted the cut area to the track above. So what I am left with is a bunch of small clips on their own track.

Best case - I can select all of the clips and throw them in the bin leaving the timeline as it is for easy access in the future.

I can then select all of the clips from the bin (hopefully sorted) and move them as a tight unit onto a timeline.

To answer your question - it takes a long time to select and slide or cut and paste...

Well If you grasp how Edius works is it simple.
1 Select all the clips which you don't want. (select clips on track) = crt+a make sure header of track is selected
            2 Press delete

Now you are left with the clips you want

            3 Select all clips = shift + A
            4Press back space done.
Now why would that take a long time? It is four commands

There is no reason I can think of to take the clips to the bin unless you want to over complicate things. :)

Well, no need to be rude either...

When I hit back space nothing happens. Could you tell me the command you are referring to? Or is that something I should have grasped already?
