La única forma que he encontrado que funciona es seleccionando uno de los clips.

Your wrong it does work.

Click in the empty space right click and chose delete gap.

Or double click on top of an empty space this will put and in and out over the empty space and press ALT +D

You can map the short cut for delete gap, I set mine to G for delete gap.(-:
