The DVStorm has hardware buffers and also does your overlay so there must be so limitation to how many buffers the DVStorm can have. Where the OHCI is CPU based for overlay and more likely has less limitation for buffer size. It's my guess and GV support would have a better idea. BUT even if the DVStorm had more buffers, I could not wait for a buffer pre-fill on tough scene that wasn't RT for preview and would end up using the ~200 (or less) buffer range and/or just render the scene.

The way I look at huge buffers over +600 is that it's as useful as 300x digital zoom :)

I already have a DualCore Duo E6850 ....so it's a nice cpu...but it's strange that I have a bigger buffer with OCHI then with the DvStorm............

I'm using Edius/DVStorm2 with the Storm Video software you can set the buffer to Automatic that gives me 192 buffers (with NTSC). With OHCI SD and 512MB buffer, I get 702 buffer (with NTSC).

There are advantages and dis-advantages to a big buffer. A big buffer can give you more RT playback. But the draw back is testing a tough filter scene that isn't RT and your forced to pre-fill the buffer and depending on how slow it is to fill the buffer you can be waiting a couple of minutes before it plays.

I think the ideal buffer size is no bigger than 200 frames. If you need more buffer space to run RT, it's time to upgrade the CPU, IMO.

The smoothness of the DVStorm overlay and RT out to monitor with perfect sync out weighs any large buffer OHCI.

    Buffer Limitation with DvStorm

    Hello! I have a DvStorm2 with Edius 4.52......
I can see that Edius offers a 600 frames buffer for OCHI and a 160 frames buffer for DvStorm.........is this normal?! I think it isn't a good thing....here is my situation now:

    Working With OCHI:
    -Direct3D Overlay (better quality)
    -600 Frames Buffer
-Not sync between the preview monitor and 1394 output

    Working with DvStorm:
    -Only DirectDraw Overlay
    -160 Frames Buffer
-Sync between the preview monitor and 1394 output

I'd like to work with DvStorm just for the good 1394 output...I could also work with directdraw overlay (as I did until now)...but I'd like to have the same buffer that edius offers with ohci editing.......

    Any suggestions? Thanks
Working...
