    It's currently not possible :(
It will always pop up in the tray when you start Edius.

You can delete this file (xdselect.exe) from your hard drive (I do so) or you may remove XDselect from the tools in installation (update ) package before you update to 4.5x

I have been asking that this be on optional start up for awhile now. I will stay with it. I think it only appears if you have Edius Broadcast.

Rather than delete it (in case you might need it at a future date), just rename the exe file located in the Canopus/Edius directory. I usually use .old in these cases

XD select is part of Edius Broadcast.

You can stop XDselect from starting this way:

Go in you edius folder and rename xd select to .old
Edius will look for it but won't find it thus it will not start it.
                  Crude but effective.

be warned that renaming xdcam select or quick titler will drastically slow the Edius start time

you can also revert to Edius 4.03 which has no xdcam select and has many other useful features no longer found in 4.52
