  • HD to computer video projector

I assume this is a lost cause but what would be the best way to export from Edius 6.5 an HD project that is going to be shown via computer projector at a convention.

I would like to keep it 16x9 but I suppose I'm either going to have to downscale to 16x9 480p on a standard DVD or give them a file they can play from a data disc or bluray player and let them worry about the conversion at the convention. I'm in the process of finding exactly what equipment will be on hand at the convention but should probably expect the worst!

So I'm wonndering what the best export format choice from Edius might be. Open to suggestion from others who may have had to do this.

If they will play it from a computer why not give them a .mp4 and a wmv HD file as back-up. Both on a USB stick.

I regularly show mp4 HD from a memory stick. it is connected component to my Video Club's projector. It looks fine, I have also shown 3D wmv files the same way. Quality not so good as the camera is a Panasonic half frame model.

If it's an educational-type venue, most likely the projector is 4x3 and 1024x768 or lower resolution.
Older projectors tend not to have:
        Component input
        Scaling

Most projectors will have VGA and Composite, unless they have one of those annoying multi-interface ports that require a specific cable.

I was thinking mp4 would be the way to go-- it will be at a hotel and a company is doing the AV, waiting to hear from them and what the client has signed-on for-- but thanks for the tips. It amazes me in the EDU community how backwards the knowledge of AV is-- but at the university I work for they have basically canned most everybody who works in AV and video except in the marketing area. When I first started here I had 1300 sq feet studio, now I'm down to 144 sq ft.

PowerPoint still rules in EDU and no one bothers to setup anything but 8.5 by 11 layouts, LOL.

It's unfortunately the case that in most traditional EDU environments video and multimedia have been regarded as a luxury of sorts, rather than an integral part of the curriculum.
I guess after all it's still an overhead projector and transparency sheet kind of mentality.
