        One difference with subclips that I don't think was mentioned is that if you make a subclip the start and end are defined and stay as you set them regardless of the in and outpoints. If you drag a regular clip into the bin with in and out points and then later change the in and out points then the clip in the bin is changed.

        I use subclips to catalogue large clips into takes etc and it is really annoying to have my carefully set up cataloguing lost - which can happen if not using subclips.

          I think I have it: so subclips are generally used to help manage the 'accounting' of numerous regions within a larger clip, and also offer some protection to prevent those regions from extending beyond what you originally set them to.

          For example, compared to a trimmed clip, subclips could have a different behavior when using them with transitions -- because with a trimmed clip, you can extend the ends, but with subclips there is a setting that limits how much they can be extended, that about right?
