How to use Storm and Edius NX

Researching specs to build a HDV editing system using, Edius software only for now, but that can support the NX card latter.
Plan to install a Storm card on the same system for all the MiniDV projects in house.

Is the Storm still necessary for RT playback of dv if I am using Edius?

Currently I use Storm Firewire out for playback/audio/color check.

No, if you have a sufficiently-fast machine, some of the CPU time can be used to generate real-time DV output over FireWire.

However, if you're already "maxing out" your CPU capability with the DVStorm then you probably will need a CPU upgrade to maintain the same performance and keep real-time DV output from the timeline.
