  • NVIDIA 8800 with Edius NX Express

Just wondering if anyone is using one of the new NVIDIA 8800 series video cards with Edius NX Express?

    Thanks

It will work fine...but Edius will not use it at all, except for it's overlay (D3D overlay, new feature in 4.5), which even a cheaper card can handle. But other than that, if you're planning to use Vitascene etc, After Effects (for OpenGL previews) etc, then that's a great card, but kind of an overkill if you're only using Edius.

An 8600 will be ok as well.

Yes, I'm just wanting to be sure there won't be an issue with overlay. I've heard that there is an issue with these cards and overlay in Avid Liquid Edition Pro.

I have no clue about Liquid...but Edius should be ok since it now does Direct3D and the overlay looks very nice.

Just an FYI, it's recommended to use a graphics card that supports DirectX9 function calls.

(ie. NVIDIA 5xxx series or better, ATI Radeon 9600 series or better)

the NVIDIA 8800 is a DirectX 10 card but I think in Windows XP it's just directx 9, in VISTA it uses Directx 10.

This is correct. DX10 cards are backwards compatible with DX9 (and back).

I understand that Edius v4.51c added DX9 overlay to NX. How about OHCI and DVStorm 1/2/Pro with the 8800?

                Thanks...Angelo

Technically, OHCI also uses DX9 overlay. The DVStorm is different since the overlay is handled by the DVStorm, with no assistance or use of the graphics board/GPU.

That said, I don't see any reason why the 8800 series board wouldn't work with DVStorm.

The CD the 8600/8800 cards comes with contains updated versions of DirectX 9, these versions contain some D3DX10 dlls, some people were having grief with these cards as the newer DX9 update was loaded during installation, MS has come out with newer versions that correct some of these problems, the latest one I downloaded was directx_aug2007_redist.exe
