Lauri,
Since the long term reliability of any disc is question, I include this language on every receipt I give my clients, and repeat it to them,
"While I use the best quality discs, there is no guarantee that any disc will last a particular amount of time. You were provided with at least two copies of each disc. It is important that you regularly make copies of each disc, and/or back them up to a computer hard or network drive, so that your precious memories will last for future generations. I can provide you with advice on the hardware and software needed for this purpose. If there is no back-up of an unreadable or damaged disc, any data on that disc will be lost. I do not archive any copies of your data/video files, and will delete them as soon as you approve of my services."

yes, DVD Identifier is a small (free) program, just install it and start it while the bad disk is in your drive, it will tell you who made the Disk
I am very keen to hear your answer

By the way I was able to only recover 11 minutes of the dvd by playing it in a $40.00 dvd player. I am now running CD/DVD Recovery in hopes of saving some more of this DVD.... My client is so pissed at me like it's my fault that 10 years later none of her dvd's work anymore..... Who Knew?

If the disc is not seen in Windows Explorer I'd still would be tempted to use different DVD drive from a different manufacturer.
If the disc is seen in Windows Explorer, but it has trouble copying some segments to HDD I'd try some of these utilities:
- Iso-Buster;
- DVDFab (years ago they had a part of software related to copying/decrypting for free);
- CD Roller.
Sometimes it does happen that copying does not complete because of a mechanical damage in some particular area of the disc (scratches, dents, etc.). It is in these cases software utilities can help. True you'll get damaged frames but it will depend on the size of damaged area.
Is the disc clean and free of mechanical defects?

Help......Daddy
I tried CDROLLER on such disks and it does recover some but with so many glitches and missing frames, the result is useless
can you identify the DVD with DVD Identifier? If the disk is Ritek or Rimedia, you have no chance to recover
if you are able to copy/paste the VIDEO_TS folder from DVD to hard disk, then there is a good chance to convert the folder to Canopus HQ Avi using the Swiss Army Knife of Video ProfessionalsLast edited by antonsvideo; 03-31-2013, 03:02 AM.

I recently had this issue with a DVD-R that could not be read in 6.53...I tried it in an older machine with 6.08 and the DVD was able to be read. i don't klnow if that is an option for you.
