      I'm not daddy, but it sounds like a problem with the disc.

        sounds like the disk you made in 2003 has a faded die, does it still play from start to end in a DVD player?

        if it was a Ritek, it is dead for sure

        if it was Taiyo Yuden, it should still work

          MAM-A never heard of this brand... Actually it was made by a company I hired way back when and I had it as a back up just in case the Bride's dvd got destroyed. Guess what the brides dvd's no longer plays....

          I played it twice way back when and I don't remember having any issues and it was fine.... Anyway Now I have tried two programs to try and copy it and it tells me there are too many errors.

          Even trying to transfer the VTS folder as I said before told me it would take 6 hours... Is there anyway for me to salvage this? Nothing like tape....lol

            yes, these are the common symptoms of a faded die

            to identify what die was used, download DVD Identifier and then analyze the bad disk, it should give you the manufacturer ID, I bet Ritek

                You can try this (no guarantee) ...

                http://www.cdroller.com/htm/tester.html

                I have used this successfully to read a DVD that normal Windows program won't.

                    if Windows explorer fails to copy/paste VIDEO_TS from DVD to hard disk, you can rest assured that the DVD die has faded and there is no way to recover

                    I tried CDROLLER on such disks and it does recover some but with so many glitches and missing frames, the result is useless

                    can you identify the DVD with DVD Identifier? If the disk is Ritek or Rimedia, you have no chance to recover

                    if you are able to copy/paste the VIDEO_TS folder from DVD to hard disk, then there is a good chance to convert the folder to Canopus HQ Avi using the Swiss Army Knife of Video Professionals

                        If the disc is not seen in Windows Explorer I'd still would be tempted to use different DVD drive from a different manufacturer.

                        If the disc is seen in Windows Explorer, but it has trouble copying some segments to HDD I'd try some of these utilities:
                        - Iso-Buster;
                        - DVDFab (years ago they had a part of software related to copying/decrypting for free);
                        - CD Roller.

                        Sometimes it does happen that copying does not complete because of a mechanical damage in some particular area of the disc (scratches, dents, etc.). It is in these cases software utilities can help. True you'll get damaged frames but it will depend on the size of damaged area.

                        Is the disc clean and free of mechanical defects?

                          the label brand is often different to the die manufacturer, and only DVD Identifier will tell for sure

                            ok well the disc plays in one of those cheap $40.00 dvd players. So I dubbed from dvd deck to deck... Plays now but when I put it on the Edius timeline I am getting a green screen.... but I can see the footage when scrolling thru the timeline but can't get it to play... gezzzz it never ends...
