You are correct in more reading being required. I had assumed channel mapping applied to the initial project setup with input and output being mapped together. I've certainly been lucky to have used Edius for 9 months without meeting this sooner. Perhaps complacency this end.

    Thanks Steve much appreciated. Geoff

This is not a bug you have to tell EDIUS how to handle the clips on the timeline.
Because there are different ways to handle audio.
If you leave the patches on mono your audio will be split accordingly irrespective of how you have the Project mapped.
You have to see it this way.'The Patches (when active) tell EDIUS what do at the input stage (timeline) and the project mapping tells EDIUS what to do on the output stage (export to file or Tape)

I think you need to read up on this or watch the free tutorials. Pat and Anton have pointed you to accurate info.

Remember that most Post houses and Broacasters use split audio. If I use 4 different Mics ( which I do often) on my camcorder each going to its own separate channel I certainly don't want any of them to mix.

Most of the Broadcast installations we have rely and only use split audio. No bug here.....

Think I'm having a senior moment this end.

Are you saying that despite mapping the 1A to say 4A channels stereo within the Project Preset one then needs to check that the track patches actually read A1/2. i.e. each track is carrying L & R channels.

Surely this would imply a bug in Edius which I find hard to believe.

The key is the mapping with the track patches.

The clip will follow the mapping set by the patches on the timeline.

I work 4 channels P2 and never have an issue. The clips folow the map set by the patches.

    Update:
This gets more interesting. Got hold of some sample video from a new JVC camcorder 1080 50P.
Opened an old project and made a new 50P preset and then closed Edius. Re-opened Edius and created a new project using the new 50P project. Audio spread itself over 2 audio tracks despite forcing 1A stereo. Removed clips from timeline and deleted audio tracks so that only 1A was present. Added clip 1 and the 1A showed correctly the two waveforms. Added 2 more audio tracks and then pulled more clips to the timeline. These clips dropped into 1A perfectly.
Repeated the exercise on a laptop. Same performance.
If I introduce these 50P clips into an existing HDV 50I timeline based projects they drop in perfectly every time. The key seems to be in getting clip one seated properly.

Thank you. Your .mp4 was just what I needed, explains everything.

Now to get my head round colour matching the GH2 to the A1e in camera but that's another ball game.

I'm amazed at how much I've learnt from this forum.
    Once again thanks.

we need to see a screenshot of your timeline including track headers

this forum allows you to attach when you scroll down and click manage attachments, png images work well

Thanks I stand corrected. I've improved my knowledge of Edius but it still doesn't work.
    1) New project 1V plus 1A & 1B(both stereo). Clip properties show stereo.
Drag clip to time line & both audio channels used and audio waveform (unbalanced) suggests stereo. I can force either channel into stereo but cannot get both waveforms into one channel.

    2) New project just 1VA. Prior to dragging clip in set A to stereo. Drag clip in and only 1 audio waveform showing.

There is good news. I normally work in HDV (taped based) 1440x1080 50i
I f I create a new HDV project based on a single VA track and drop clip on the timeline all is well. Likewise if I open an existing HDV project & add 50P media the audio sits in a single stereo audio channel and looks stereo.

For the time being 1289x720P is not a major priority as most media will be 50i and a normal HDV preset will be used but I would like to resolve matters. Poor consolation but the clips go straight into a Vegas 50P project.

Thanks for your help it is appreciated. @ anton. eventually found your .pngs showing 50P setup.

Have .pngs of ProjPreset, ProjSettings & Channel map. Can't attached them

Sorted. Open new project. Set 1A to stereo. Close project & Edius. Reopen Edius and add files to Bin & Timeline. Doesn't sound right but it has worked 3 times in succession.

Didn’t quite work like that on my system but pretty close. R Click in clip audio(timeline)-> properties. Then select radio button ‘stereo ’and apply.
If I now go to a clip in the Bin but not yet on the timeline and then open properties-> audio tab. The stereo radio button is correctly checked. It changes once it is dragged to the timeline and needs to be changed back and re-applied.

I don’t really fancy doing this to hundreds of clips. Edius bug or something wrong my end?

    Thanks John
I recall a recent posting from Anton showing 50P setup. Seem to recall that you cannot start from 50i and change to 50P. The 50p must be from a predefined system pre-set.
Update: Started a new project and timeline setting now match the preset.1280x720P (50)
Tried dragging slowly and can now get the audio into 1A (set stereo) but only one channel visible.
Reopened an old HDV 1440x1080 50i project and find the .mts file will drop into 2V and 1A as a stereo file. Can also drop into 1VA correctly. Likewise Vegas accepts the .mts audio as stereo.
'MediaInfo' confirms 1280x720P 50fps 2 channel Front LR
All audio tracks are mapped stereo.
At the moment I'm just trying to get my head round a new camera and see how Edius handles the files on my pc.
Just hoping these aren't senior moments creeping in.
