  • Edited Clips won't play back

I am using Edius 6.01 version and when I edit clips , everything is fine, export to file, etc. Now when I try to play back the clips in VLC I get the following message "VLC does not support the audio or video format 'CUVC' ". The clips will play in badly in Windows media player, by badly I mean a lot of shaking and stopping, in other words they don't play smoothly. I also get a 'pillar box' effect on the clips after they come out of Edius. I've looked at my project settings and I'm not sure if I am overlooking something. The Clips are HD AVCHD 1920 x 1080 and PAL format. Thanks

Use another player Media Player Classic
MPC-HC, the free, open source media player for Windows

Get Support or the Latest version of EDIUS:

Downloaded Media Player Classic, still got the same problem, comes up with the "CUVC". So now I'm guessing it's not the VLC or MPC, but EDIUS, as the un-edited clips play no problem , it's only when I've edited them and put titles on etc that they won't play.

everything is fine, export to file, etc
and the "exported" file makes the problems ??

please give us more info about your PC (big NLE workstation or small notebook)
please give us more info about your file => go to: http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/
load down the (free) MediaInfo .... install it ... open the the "exported" file with MediaInfo

go to "View" ... set it to "Text" ....copy the infos from this view ... and paste it in your next replay

snatch media: You might want to put your workstation specifications in your signature block. It may help in diagnosing the problem.

I have trouble playing HD clips in Windows Media on one of my computers, (not listed below) but it is old and has some performance issues with hardware.

About that PC that gave you problems - does it have the Canopus codec installed? Is the PC you got problems on the same PC that has EDIUS installed on it?

Is the frame rate the problem?

You say PAL but you are using 29.97

Also you might want to update to Edius 6.08, if you are using 6.01

Tried frame rate for PAL, have still got problem VLC does not recognize it, will play the audio, but that 's it. The files will play in media player, now getting fed up don't want to revert to Premiere Pro.

why are you trying to play Canopus AVI files in media players?

Windows Media Player is incorrectly preset by Microsoft to play all avi files with lower field first, but Canopus files are correctly upper field first, so they will flicker in media player

if you want flicker free playback in media players, export to mpeg2 HD (very fast) or Windows Media HD

Well, it's because my files won't play in VLC media player which normally plays anything that you put in it. I'm not technical 'upper fields' and 'lower fields'. Yest clips play no problem before I edit in Edius, so I don't know. I did think it may have something to do with me putting a watermark on the clip before exporting to 'print to file'.

VLC will not play them but the player I pointed you to in post number 2 always plays them if:
1 it is installed on a machine with EDIUS
2 It is installed on a machine without EDIUS, on which the codec pack is installed.
note: the free codec pack should not be installed on a machine with EDIUS as EDIUS installs its own canopus codec pack.
We are at post 14 now.......
