  • Buffer Low

My buffer seems to be always ending up at 1.
I have tried various combinations for
Play Back Buffer Size and Buffered Frames before Playback.

The low buffer is inconsistent Yesterday some clips played fine and today they run the buffer to 1.

I have applied all of Antons Win 7 specs and the new Edius 6.52 spec.
    I am completely confused.

I have updated some new hardware
    2x Geforce GTX275 1 GHz to 2x Geforce GTX660 2 GHz.
I also changed my system drive to a SSD Kingston 550mb.

Many help will be much appreciated

is your audio mixer open and is a track set to any mode other than off? if so, that is your problem

I have my audio mixer open 24/7 but all tracks are set to off, so full buffer

what are you trying to play when you have the buffer go down? It is normal with some third party filters and keyers

      Hi Anton,
I have my mixer off and audio tracks set to off.
I have a feeling it’s got something to do with my graphic card drivers.
are you running Geforce cards? if so what driver version?
I have a i7 laptop with 8Gb of ram and it plays the exact same footage without even dropping more than 2-3 points under 32.

      I’m playing footage from a 5dm3 1920x1080.

Take out one of the video cards and see if it works. The 314 series of Geforce drivers work.

Thanks Jerry im downloading the 14 driver now.
I had the Kernal driver crash issues with these cards so if this driver doesn’t fix the problem il try taking out the cards.
Worst case scenario im buying Radeons had one in the past still to this day best performing and most reliable card I’ve owned.

I just installed the 314 driver, no good; the buffer went down in about 10seconds of playback.
I removed the second card; it didn't solve the issue either.
I’m re installing the original driver and software that came with the cards,
Anybody have any other solutions? This issue has taken up over a week of my time and my clients are getting very annoyed.

Yes i have, the same thing occurs, plus i would not be happy i spend 3 days proofing almost 6hrs of footage, for the second time. I would be furious if I have to do it again.
I have noticed the below pattern.
What’s the difference between a Quicktime Video (avc1) and a QT Video, my buffer seems to be going all the way down to 1 when I play back the QT Video files

                Does anyone know why?

Sound like an mov file which can be made a lot of ways. Some mov files are a piece of cake, some will not play realtime. Right click on it in the Bin and Convert. Use that file instead.

If that file is small, can you post it some place so we can try it.
Update your QT to the latest version, if you already haven't.
Is it only on these files?

The only problem I have with converting is that my projects usually are between 4-12hrs, this particular project is about 7hrs. Only SLR footage comes to 700 files
You can see why I wouldn’t want to sit there and convert some/most of my files very time consuming.
Here is the link to download a file.

I just played the same file on my laptop, and it played fine. The buffer did drop down to about 8 but considering it’s a laptop it still played the file ok.
Everyone is saying to convert the files. What’s the point of Edius advertising so many file capabilities if I’m always going to have to convert files so Edius can play them real time.

Considering I just spent hundreds of dollars buying the software, I’m not impressed at the moment.

PS. I just tried doing a Convert Batch. Edius crashed. So I guess I can’t play the files and I can’t convert them.
                        .
                        Anybody have any suggestions!

can you upload the file to a clean place

Nod32 prevents this file from being downloaded as it tries to install an exe
